Do local police have jurisdiction over tribal activities that are against the law?

It is common knowledge that many tribes around the world still practice rites and traditions that are considered immoral and illegal in democratic civilizations. They kill, eat and harm fellow humans as a part of tradition and as a huge part of their beliefs. With that being said, do the local law enforcement have any jurisdiction and control over this situation or do they ignore it? Should the law educate these people of their ignorant and primitive ways, not to mention their immoral and illegal practices? Or should we leave them be to be a living legacy and example of history?

Update:

And while the rest of the world is evolving and growing, these groups are still practicing their traditions. We may have different beliefs but I know one thing for sure: You can never replace a life. Even if they believe in reincarnation or after life. Whats done is done.

Yes, I think that they do. Yes, they should regulate tribal practices, because while everyone is free to practice their religion however they want to, they still must obey the laws when doing so.

I think the tribal elders should decide fates based both on cuture and what is legally accepted in their country. For Canada, certain aboriginal tribes have physical punishments that a tribal council decides upon but I still think that they abide the basic Canadian and Provincial laws. I don't think that police have jurisdiction over certain aboriginal lands, however if the crime results in death, I believe they are part of the investigation. I believe that everyone should be treated with basic human rights, however this a trend that is unheard of in countries where female genital mutilation and sacrifices take place. Educating them would not change their beliefs or culture. Unfortunately, it is accepted because that is the way of the world.

who are you to decide what is moral or immoral? In your society, you find certain things immoral, while in others its completely acceptable. The local law enforcement (if it exists) would likely not have laws banning such primitive things in that type of society, as it is acceptable in the society. Now when you consider someone performing such acts in a society that has laws against it, then thats all there is too it. They are not allowed to do certain things just because its a religious practice.

I agree with Tony, People should be able to practice their traditions & religion but there is a line that they should not cross. Just because it's tradition or legacy doesn't mean they can raise above the law and harm or even kill another human! It's just wrong!!!

nicely FBI overall has greater skill. keep in mind that the "F" stands for FEDERAL. FBI has federal powers of arrest the place as close by police in basic terms have powers that fall under their very own jurisdiction. yet that's the undemanding answer getting into basic terms on what you have published. yet, if for example the FBI agent exchange into doing something unlawful in this officers jurisdiction then definite the officer does have the skill to take criminal action on the agent that may incorporate arrest if the offense is arrestable.

i think they do have jurisdiction, and yes if its harmful to someone then they should not be allowed to do it in our country, but cultures and tribes and these people will always continue what they believe in no matter what we think, it may seem wrong and immoral to us, but to them its the way they were raised and its all they know in some instances, so who are we to judge? some of the rituals they follow are very strange, especially the self mutilation ones (watch Taboo sometime on National Geographic) its really a cool show and you see some weird and gross things on their but it is enlightening and educational too!

i guess its just depends on what they are doing really, i mean if they are eating each other, they should be stopped because that's not only immoral but it gives a "mad cow" sort of disease.

    It varies. They should, though.
