What does everyone think about "Jena 6"?

I know where I stand on this, but I want to know what everyone else thinks.

Update:

Ok, so the white kids hung a noose from a tree. Probaly not the right action to take to intimidate somebody. But, what is with Al Sharpton saying that the noose is what brought the racial issue into the picture? Are black people the only people ever to be hung from a noose? I don't think so. Why do black people always think everything is about race?

To be honest...it pisses me off. Being from the south, hell being from America, I know that any Case where it is white vs black...the blacks are going to cry racism. I am not racist by far, but this drives me crazy.

As for the white students not being arrested, they did not commit a crime. Sure it was VERY wrong what they did. And they make whites look bad, but it wasn't illegal.

However, 6 guys jumping one other guy until he is knocked unconscious (no matter what race of either party) IS illegal. It is assault and it is wrong. I think the charge of attempted murder was a bit harsh but that has been reduced for all of the boys.

What do these people have to protest?? That the laws should not apply to black people?? All because they got offended? If I beat the crap out of every person that offended me I would live in jail. It is society. It is school life. It is LIFE to not get along with everyone.

What bothers me more than anything is that the Red Cross was there handing out snacks and drinks to the protestors. Yeah, lets support the people who are trying to go above the law. This is an issue they should have stayed away from...

I think it would be racism to let these 6 boys go with nothing but a slap on the wrist. The simple fact is, they broke the law and could have very easily done more harm than they did. Now they have to pay the price. The white boy paid the price for hanging the noose...

The beating of a white American by 6 black Americans, with the resultant misbehavior from both sides, is indicative of how primitive today's youngest generation has become in relation to their predescors, and how willing political factions are willing to exploit things for their own agendas.

The 6 black youth that viciously and cowardly wailed on the white kid need to be taken out-of-circulation and an attempt made to rehabilitate them, although this is a long shot. Frankly, once a person is a teenager, it's almost too late to rebuild moral character without completely redefining their environment, including home environment.

As for the nooses hanging out of trees, it's an unfortunate reminder of when "Southern trees bore bitter fruit" and should be denoucned. However, how can you expect any American, who has taught to play fair, not to be outraged about 6 against one? Two against one is cowardly, 6 against one is just plain dacadent.

While I'm on my soap box, why is there so little about the poor African-American girl who was abducted, raped and tortured? Further proof of depravity and lack of morality in our society, only in the opposite direction.

Young Americans of all shapes, sizes and colors, must reject hip-hop and all other things that promote hatred as a form of entertainment, as well as the objectifying of women, (black women in particular shaking their booties in those insufferable, uninteresting cookie cutter videos), as well as idolizing basket case bufoons like Ms. Spears, becaus e hangmen's nooses are actually colorblind and accommodate any human neck, regardless of ethnicity.

How far away are these fools from a racial Matthew Sheppard-a mindless and damning expression of hate and boredom, combined with not knowing right from wrong? It's a combination that even some Nazis would have rejected more than 80 years ago. Incredibly, it's now the 21rst century and we're still going after each other racially, when much of the world wants to believe that the American dream is a nightmare and that our great culture is not a worth while one.

I go to Temple University and the amount of protestors here get me sick. What the white kids did was disgusting and wrong but at the same time not illegal. The law should be held up regardless of color. The Jena 6 should be charged as adults because they are. I am catholic and thousands of catholics get killed in the middle east, Just because there is a jar a piss with a crusifix in it at the ny meuseum of art , doesnt give me a right to break the law and beat the artist up. Im almost positive that if a black man drew a swatstica on the wall of a jewish kids school or even drew it on the tree, and the jewish kid decided to be the **** out of the black kid. Ther would be no protestors or even a reduce scentencing

I think the white kid deserved to get beat up for hanging a noose in a tree. However, 6 kids beat up 1 kid. They did break the law as far as an assault and battery charge is concerned. They should have reported the incident to the school and had the kid punished or expelled.

One of the 6 is under age and he should be tried as a teen not as an adult. However they did the crime they should do the time/punishment; which ever.

I have been to Louisiana many times... Louisiana is very segregated so I can see why people would believe this is about race. Whether or not it is; the white kid and his friends to be suspended or expelled and the kids that beat up the kid need to be punished fairly.

Young, black boys with anger built up because of a threat on their lives by white kids because a black kid sit under their tree. Give me a break!!! If the community would have dealt with that appropriately and quickly perhaps this white boy would not have been the subject of their wrath. I would imagine that both blacks and whites in that town are at fault for letting this go so far. Now we have crazy Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson in their stirring more doodoo. When is this going to end? People are so stupid!!!!! I do not think those boys should be imprisoned but everyone that had anything to do with this incident, including the nooses in the tree should be punished in some manner. I can not believe this black boy asked permission to sit under a tree. What a f'd up mess!!

The kids who hung the nooses should be punished in one way or another. I'm not Mr Political Correct but I'd also recommend they get some counseling. As for the kids who did the beating, they should all be punished for simple battery. Ususally for first time offenders they'd get probation or community service or the like. What gets me is this idiot Sharpton crawling out of his hole again to inflame the situation. Does he really think he's helping? I wish he'd scurry back under his rock.

I think they need to quit crying, and quit searching for reasons to complain about how they're getting screwed again. Guess what, they attacked someone. They deserve jail.

Hanging a noose...maybe not smart, but it is no big deal. Is the black community implying that a white man has never been hung? How are they turning a noose into a racial symbol now?

Thousands of people pulling the race card mostly just because they "want to be a part of history"....

The civil rights movement was not a series of catered riots with port-a-potties and first aid tents.... It was a struggle for freedom and equal justice under the laws that govern the US.

What is happening in jena is the opposite.. It is a struggle for exceptions from the law based on race. The people choking the town of jena are there as an intimidation tactic to set some violent youths free. And, they should be ashamed of themselves.

Also: The kids that hung the nooses on the tree should be arrested and tried for a misdemeanor hate-crime. Justice is justice.... intimidation is intimidation.

Everyone in that town today should be ashamed of themselves...

I think it is a blatant miscarriage of justice. I mean the DA said that he was seeking punishment for an innocent victim. There is nothing innocent about hanging nooses from a tree that clearly is no stranger to having black men and women hanging from it. The kids did this after a black boy and his friends sat under the tree. Violence is never good however I think people are forgetting that the very first act of violence was when a white kid and his friends jumped a black kid at a party. Violence only begets more violence. What were these kids thinking hanging nooses. This country has come a long way but as we can see not far enough this event these kids parents with their hateful teachings (because I am a parent I do realize that hate starts at home) this has put us back about 50 years and it's sad.

And for those of you who say freedom of speech, yes but there is a second part of that freedom, as long as you are not provoking a person. These kids did this looking for a rise and boy did they get one!

I think the whole thing is being blown out of proportion. These kids commited a crime, they should be punished for it. What about the rights of the victim? People will find any excuse to make anything a fight about racism, whether its really an issue or not. I think these people just want to raise a rukus... and like someone said earlier, most of them are pulling the card just because they want to be 'a part of history'. I think this can only lead to more trouble.
