How to cover parquet floor with vinyl tiles?

There is parquet flooring throughout the house. It was covered by carpeting to sell it. Lucky us. We are replacing rug with vinyl tiles. How would I stick the tiles to the parquet? Some of them are separating. Should we put some kind of board like luan over it or should we remove it all. I'd rather cover it if possible. Trying to keep the mess down. Please help. Was thinking of covering it with luan then putting down the vinyl tiles. Would this work? Please help!

When I bought this house, the people had put down vinyl tiles over a concrete floor that had epoxy paint on it.They did not stick well. It took us a week trying to get the glue up (unsuccessfully). We ended up using ceramic tiles to cover the mess. In the kitchen we put down Lu an and then linoleum and every time you took a step it sounded like you were walking on bubble wrap.Ended up with laminent in there. Have you considered just putting vinyl flooring right over the parquet or is it too uneven? You might be able to get a floor sander to even it out some and then put the flooring down. I really don't think the tiles are the way to go unless you are going to buy the better grade stuff. We put that down in the garage but the glue kept oozing up and made a mess. It finally stopped and is really a nice floor now. As you can see I have had extensive floor problems and feel like an expert now.LOL

With your problem,I would go with Vinyl flooring or ceramic if the boards are not loose.

If the parquet is installed on a slab to cover it with luan is going to be a problem. You'll have a problem getting nails or staples to hold. Maybe you can fill the areas in the parquet that are separating and the install the vinyl tile. Other wise just tear up the old parquet, and this will be a job especially removing the old glue residue.

There is actually a stripper that you can get at any hardware store. It will take the finish off of the parquet and allow the tiles to stick. As far as the separating, you can fill the voids with floor leveller that again you can get at any hardware store.

Why would you remove the parquet if it's in good condition ? I f I were you I would sand it down and re apply a coat of varnish .

You must remove the parquet floor before applying the stick on tiles .
