    You don't.

Laptops are not made to be overclocked.

The processors are set at their speeds, and to save money and space, the laptop manufacturer creates a cooling solution (heatsink/heatpipes) that is just efficient enough to keep the processor at operating temperature.

Overclocking a processor creates more heat, so the laptop will overheat quickly.

Not to mention the fact that Compaq strips all overclocking options out of the BIOS's that are installed in their computers.

You could do it using Nvidia's Ntune or some other software-based overclocking utility. But again, you are just creating more heat that the computer cannot disappate.

instead of overclocking (which is by the way the worst thing u can do for a laptop) just get more RAM if u double u'r current RAM I guarantee u a speed up of more than twice the speed it runs on now

plus over clocking won't do anything to a laptop with 1 GBs of RAM I assure u

It could be caused by the software. Is it Vista. Try going to start, connect to after turning on the switch. If the light doesn't come on and no networks are found then I would click on diagnose the problem and follow the instructions. If it says that you need to flip the switch then you have a problem.

If you need to ask, then you don't need to know.

How would you like the Compaq to turn into a "Brick". Just overclock it to much.

You could try Clockgen. Laptop BIOS usually does not have fsb adjustment.
