You have to have the ground troops to identify the targets. You can't always identify the targets from the sky or with radar. If you depended on radar or eye in the sky, you would assume that all miitary buildings were schools or hospitals. The enemy always masks their military structures up as hospitals or schools to keep them from being bombed. It takes a ground troop to identify the mistake.

Also, you need ground troops to provide security, food, water, shelter, and medical aid for the civilians stuck in the middle of the battle. It is hard to pull defense from afar. You need to be able to step in between.

Because ships and planes are only effective with certain aspects to combat. Without the ground troops more mistakes would be made when determing targets and unecessary deaths of innocent civilians could occur.

Because the war we are fighting now has no obvious enemy. They dress and look just like every innocent civilian in Iraq. So all that high tech weaponry is useless when you don't know what to shoot at. And that unfortunately means that the only way to fight is with our men on the ground.

    Wow.

Anyways, do you have ANY idea what happens when you do that?

Your "planes" keep firing on friendly targets. You've blown up British tanks, killed Canadian soldiers etc.

If you actually knew anything about any conflict you would know that infantry play a crucial role.

What if they hide in the cities? Tell me, what then?

MISSLES and BOMBARDMENTS and PLANES and RADAR can't discern between a terrorist and a 3-year-old, can they?

    Because each plays a role.

Ships protect shipping lanes and project power.

Bombers attack targets to soften defences and disrupt communication.

Fighters keep the airways clear for the bombers.

ground troops capture and secure land denying it from the enemy.

  • You need a man with a rifle on the ground to deny resources to the enemy. Besides, bombardment can't destroy everything.
