Move the (baseball) pitcher's mound back. Good idea?

Move it back 15 feet to 75 feet. One-hundred-twenty years ago, it was 45 feet and was moved back 15 feet to the current 60'6". Let's do it again. Batters will have a better chance to make hits, score runs and increase spectator excitement. In fact, they might even allow aluminum bats, because the pitcher is farther away.

there's a rule..... Rule 8.06 8.06 a expert league shall undertake right here rule touching on the pass to of the government or coach to the pitcher: (a) This rule limits the style of journeys a supervisor or coach might make to every physique pitcher in every physique inning; (b) A 2d holiday to a similar pitcher interior a similar inning will reason this pitcher’s automatic removing; (c) the government or coach is unlawful from making a 2d pass to to the mound collectively as a similar batter is at bat, yet (d) if a pinch-hitter is substituted for this batter, the government or coach might make a 2d pass to to the mound, yet might desire to do away with the pitcher. A supervisor or coach is seen to have concluded his pass to to the mound while he leaves the 18-foot circle surrounding the pitcher’s rubber. Rule 8.06 remark: If the government or coach is going to the catcher or infielder and that participant then is going to the mound or the pitcher includes him at his place before there is an intervening play (a pitch or different play) which would be a similar because of the fact the government or coach going to the mound. Any attempt to sidestep or stay faraway from this rule by utilising the government or coach going to the catcher or an infielder and then that participant going to the mound to consult from the pitcher shall represent a visit to the mound. If the coach is going to the mound and gets rid of a tumbler and then the government is going to the mound to talk with the hot pitcher, which will represent one holiday to that new pitcher that inning. In a case the place a supervisor has made his first holiday to the mound and then returns the 2d time to the mound interior a similar inning with a similar pitcher interior the interest and a similar batter at bat, after being warned by utilising the umpire that he won't be able to return to the mound, the government would be faraway from the interest and the pitcher required to pitch to the batter till he's retired or gets on base. After the batter is retired, or will become a base runner, then this pitcher might desire to be faraway from the interest. the government must be notified that his pitcher would be faraway from the interest after he pitches to one hitter, so he could have a replace pitcher warmed up. the factitious pitcher would be allowed 8 preparatory pitches or greater if interior the umpire’s judgment circumstances justify. do slightly learn before you ask a query.

If the machine ain't broke, don't fix it. Baseball works fine just the way it is. Changing the pitching mound distance would do nothing but add asterisks to all the record books.

Some of the magnitudes of the scores are outrageous as it is, e.g., 18 to 6, etc, Let's not talk about making it worse.

Baseball does't want to live to see batters do everything. Pitchers are exciting to watch as well, and if the mound is moved back, then pitchers will go extinct. There will only be throwers.

Also, the pitchers mound would be way too close to second base.

I am a baseball purist, I'll admit that. But I think there's enough scoring as there is. Sometimes it really borders on making a mockery of the game. And the overall level of pitching is bad enough without increasing the level of difficulty. I say leave it be.

  • Instead of changing the game that drastically, perhaps it would be better for the "fans" to learn the game well enough to appreciate a 3-2 game. Thanks to Sportscenter and Baseball Tonight, most of the fans out there only appreciate diving catches and home runs. Instead, I think it is up to the fans to educate themselves about the game so that they can appreciate a well played game regardless of the score. I'll take a well played 2-1 game over a horribly played 12-10 game any day.

I'd have to say no because it would be to difficult for pitchers who can barely pitch where it is now And if they did move it back the aluminum bat's wouldn't work, to many injuries.

good Idea on the mound being raised. There is precedent for this as the mound used to be higher

If it ain't broke, dont fix it. What is wrong with the mound right now?

They should rise the mound instead.
