Breeding Dogs?
My female black labrador was born on Feb. 28, 2007. She just recently started mounting our male dog. Does this mean she is coming into heat? Why would she be mounting our male dog?? He doesn't do much of anything. Doesn't always try to get away from her, but doesn't really want her doing it either. Thank You in advance to anyone that can help.

It's a dominance issue.
But be on the look out she's getting to that age where she could have her first heat. This is the time to have her spayed.

My female dog does the same thing. My male dog mounts the female's face too. But after we put the male dog on the female dogs the right way they got down to business. They still have foreplay when she is in heat. Usually just what we call tails and ears.

Sometimes mounting can be a sexual thing, but usually if a female does it she is showing dominance. You need to contact a trainer as soon as possible, because dominance only leads to aggression. You also need to have both of your dogs fixed as soon as possible as well; that can help with aggression issues, as well as eliminate many medical problems your dogs can have later on in life.

That is typically a dominance issue.
This will cause the dogs to fight for alpha.
You need to be the dominate one and then the dogs under you.
The Dog Whisper has some excellent advice on this issue. I believe last years season is out on DVD now.
Good Luck.

At seven months, heat is a possibility, but I rather think she's trying to establish her place in your family's hierarchy. She is definitely old enough where you should be considering having her spayed. It will make her safe from ovarian cancer, a deadly disease called pyometra, and uterine cancer. It will also greatly reduce her chances of mammary (breast) cancer if it is done before first heat. Besides, if she's spayed, she won't exhibit those annoying moods that give the word "b*itch" such a bad name. Even if your male is neutered, he will probably act the fool when she comes into heat, and if he isn't, he will be unbearable to live with when she comes in. Good luck.

If your dog isnt fixed you should fix her. The humping is for domonance but we have a huge pet over population issue and the only way to stop it is to fix our pets.

I agree they are she is probably showing shes boss. Or they could be a possibility that they just do that...

The humping is about dominance. It has nothing to do with sexuality or reproduction. She is showing him who is boss.

She is showing dominance, over him & nothing more.
