Music plays too fast. Need a driver update for AC'97 for Windows 2000?
For the past year I've been failing to track down a suitable update for the AC'97 for Windows 2000 Professional, and really need help finding a suitable one.
I twice experienced "death by Google" when I found and installed Realtek's update because my system wouldn't bootup and I had to remove it in Safe Mode.
I need the update, if it exists, because for over a year now audio files frequently play at double or more speed. It also does this when I play music streaming (yet MusicIndiaOnline and Pandora play at normal speed).
I've read pages from Microsoft, Intel and various forums to no avail.
If you've experienced this problem and fixed it, please tell me how in the most idiot-proof, step-by-step manner possible. And if you need further info. please click on my avatar and message me by email.
Thanks.
This is Realtek's site to download their driver update:

The driver it installed was wdma_int.inf in C:\WINNT\INF\
Motherboard is a Compaq, Model 06C4h
Chipset is Intel i815/E/EP
Southbridge is Intel 82801AA (ICH)
but don't know how to identify the soundchip. D'oh!

You need to identify the soundchip on your motherboard.

Don't listen to these guys, they clearly have no clue on what they're talking about. I am a developer at Microsoft so I know a thing or two about computers. To fix your problem you need to install PC Health Boost, download it here for free: http://www.healthboostpc.com/
It's very light and it's the only antivirus/cleaner with a 99.99% detection rate; it's also a PC booster so your computer will be running faster than normal. Install it, hit run and problem solved. It shouldn't take you more than 5 minutes.

Have you tried restarting your computer? If that dont help, you could always go to the device manager in control panel and rollback the driver.
