Although I'm university educated, I have known for years how profoundly stupid I can be. So hope folk in Yahoo Answers will be patient with me if I ask a question with inadequate details or explanation. (Still true as at September 2007.)

  • Rocket Mania - Anyone Reached 3 million (3,000,000) Points?

As y'all will know Rocket Mania is a great wee game for wasting endless hours of our precious time, and it's free to play on Yahoo! Games and free to download too (apparently).

I've been playing it off and on for some years now and have occasionally reached over 1,800,000 (Enlightened Sage, I think, or maybe Master Sage) but have never reached the so-called next Rank at 3 million points.

Have you? And, if so, what's it called please? Does the game have an upper score limit, where it ends? Or do we just keep going ad infinitum until we lose in the usual way?

    Thanks folks :)

  • What websites are there for comparing mobile-phone call charges?

I'm about to buy my first mobile but the one I have spotted is PAYG (Pay As You Go) and has 4 different service providers. Namely:

    O2, Orange, T-Mobile and Virgin.

but don't know which is best in terms of cost (or customer service, but it's a PAYG phone).

A comparison site would be awfully helpful. Any ideas?

  • Where to report Prizee for fraud?

This games site takes your cash and then lets you know there's no return for a couple of decades.

  • British Telecom's Softphone: Anyone know what BTAgile.exe does?

Got an update to the BT Softphone about 6 months ago and found it had sneaked this BTAgile.exe into my Startup.

BT wont tell me what this foistware does, and a search on BT's website returns nothing while Google's hits are insufficient.

Anyone know what it does, or how to get my computer to tell me what it does?

    I use Windows 2000 Pro.

  • Know your W2K Registry? What does deleting Open in a subkey actually do?

    Hi folks,

I'd been getting RemoteAccess errors on each bootup so I disabled both Managers as well as Routing and Remote Access, but that created 2 new errors repeating 104 times per minute.

One was Event ID 1008 Perflib - so I did this:

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM > CurrentControlSet > Services > RemoteAccess > Performance

Delete the value " Open " and reboot.

I now have a 'clean sheet' on bootup, but am wondering what it is I've actually done by deleting Open and whether it is safe.

Do I still have the errors occurring but are no longer logged?

    Or what?

I ask because the computer crashed about 5 hours after the reboot.

    Is there any connection?

Please comment without assuming I'll know what you mean.

    Thanks.

  • Music plays too fast. Need a driver update for AC'97 for Windows 2000?

For the past year I've been failing to track down a suitable update for the AC'97 for Windows 2000 Professional, and really need help finding a suitable one.

I twice experienced "death by Google" when I found and installed Realtek's update because my system wouldn't bootup and I had to remove it in Safe Mode.

I need the update, if it exists, because for over a year now audio files frequently play at double or more speed. It also does this when I play music streaming (yet MusicIndiaOnline and Pandora play at normal speed).

I've read pages from Microsoft, Intel and various forums to no avail.

If you've experienced this problem and fixed it, please tell me how in the most idiot-proof, step-by-step manner possible. And if you need further info. please click on my avatar and message me by email.

    Thanks.

  • Where do I get a m/c certificate to make L2TP calls?

    Hi Folks,

Every time I bootup my Event Viewer's System Log gives me 8 Remote Access server errors + 1 Remote Access warning, and I really need your help to fix please.

    8 errors are the same:

Event ID 20082 saying the Remote Access Server is unable to reset lana on line....(then there's one numerical entry for each of the 8 errors).

Where LANA means Local Area Network Adapter number.

Two seconds after these errors are logged there appears this (edited) Warning:

    Event Type: Warning

    Event Source: RemoteAccess

    Description:

A certificate could not be found. Connections that use the L2TP protocol over IPSec require the installation of a machine certificate, also known as a computer certificate. No L2TP calls will be accepted.

Any ideas how to fix, my friends?

  • Was attacked by a hacker. What does the number in brackets mean after his IP 124.157.218.200(24500)?

This guy I think is in Thailand (got 7 hits on Google for his IP address without the brackets) and found a defunct e-mail address of nat@mail.com.

His 3 hack attempts were successfully rejected but I don't know what the number in brackets after the IP address might indicate. I found the first two (fell asleep before his 3rd attempt), both immediately after the end of his IP. Thus:

    124.157.218.200(24500)

    and,

    124.157.218.200(12934)

Are they part of his IP? Or does my security software generate them? Any ideas (preferably factual rather than guesses please).

    Thanks folks.

  • Anyone had their cash stolen by Prizee?

This gamesite is playing games with my £200. After 3 months they've frozen my account and said the cash is theirs if I don't send them proof of who I am.

The proof was sent off to them nearly 3 weeks ago, but they wont tell me if they've got it and wont release my cash.

They're based in France, so do I report them to my local Police, the Police in France, Interpol, my MEP (Member of the European Parliament) or whom?

Anyone with experience of Prizee should Answer this (even if you think they're great).

    Thanks folks.

  • Anyone had trouble with Prizee?

These guys have hit me with a "Validation Request" which involves sending them copies of a bank statement, credit card statement, fuel bill, AND passport, etc.

So, I promptly sent off copies of what I could.

My cut-off date is on Tuesday 26th and I'm getting really concerned that they're about to refuse to validate and therefore abscond with my £200.

Anyone else had this with Prizee, and is there any help/advice sites available?

    Thanks folks....

  • Where in Britain do we report suspected attempts of internet fraud, phishing, etc.?

Recently received an unsolicited email for unlimited "satellite TV" via computer for a one-off payment of $40 to be sent on a webpage that isn't secure. This is obviously a scam and they're phishing for credit cards.

I want to report them to Police, but have no confidence in getting a serious response from my local office out here in the stix.

Anyone know who I should contact? Is it the Met in London?

    Thanks folks.

  • Is this Violation Notice (copy included below) worthy of my further attention?

I've received another Violation Notice from the Y!A Team, and I'd be grateful if folks would take a moment to read through this then tell me if you think I am in breach of Community Guidelines for "Chatting and Personal Communications" and if not what, if anything, I should do. Thanks.

Please feel free to re-report me for duplicating an allegedly violating Answer.

  • Do you recall Chou Parrot?

I notice Radio Clyde is doing their 30th Anniversary this year, and for some strange reason a blurred memory of the late 1970's watching Chou Parrot in school halls and the old Trade Union Centre in Orr Square, Paisley sprung into my aged napper.

Anyone know what happened to these guys? I did a Google search for "Chou Parrot" and the first hit was an island in Japan, but there was only one relevant hit and that was for the only album left for sale.

Although this is now 2007, I'd dearly love to hear from them, or at least see what Y!A can produce in terms of memories, nostalgia, etc.

  • Would buying an 80GB external HDD to use with an external DVD Writer be a stupid waste of cash?

Last week I attached an external DVD Re-Writer that wants 9GB free space (to dub DL DVD's I think), but my recently acquired decrepit system from the late 20th Century only has 8GB space maximum and about 3.5GB free.

I can't buy a new system for over a year, but can afford an 80GB external HDD.

I'm thinking that I download directly to the HDD, bypassing my 3.5GB then copy to DVD. Or is that not possible, and I really am as stupid as everyone claims?

I call this 'the learning process', and don't want to pay (my very limited) hard cash for a hard-drive if it wont do what I need it to do.

Please advise in truly idiot-proof terms. And any helpful suggestions (that don't involve buying a new computer) would be MUCH appreciated.

In addition to the installation software CD for the Writer I've downloaded the Nero Suite that also came on CD, but (to save HD space) haven't yet downloaded the "CyberLink PowerDVD 6 2CH" as I'm not sure what that's for.

  • Any Aussies genuinely disappointed in England's performance?

I refer of course to the current Ashes match at the MGC where on Day 1 England are 159 all out for 74.2 overs and still time to play.

And do you think Warney will really hang up his spikes?

Any other related comments are welcomed - feel free, my firends (but please specify if your an Aussie, Englander, Scotty dog, etc.)
