i asked the question yesterday about ships and planes instead of ground war?
the question still stands in ww1 and ww2 civilians did not matter this is a war not a pity party civilians matter in the sense of get out of town this is war and we are here to kick your butt not here to feel sorry for you with todays technology there is no country out there to put up a decent defense for what we have. so now explain to me the purpose of ground troops unless used for cleaning out the area sorry guys im a woman and all these men dying makes no sense to me

Your right -- war and killing is absolutely no sense to any one.-- .But, it has happened for thousands of years... Ground troops are needed because the Iraq war is not a total nuclear distruction history making event... Some of them die and some of ours die and neither is the winner... There have been more people killed in the name of God and here we go again...

Even in this modern age of technology and massive weapons you require people on the ground for control. The only way for use of airpower only would be to destroy certain military targets or entirely destroy a country through blanket bombing and nuclear weapons. Since we do not and cannot destroy other countries you require ground troops to help the population and find the few enemy amongst the majority of the population. Do you want to kill millions of innocent people just so a small number of troops dont have to go into battle?
