so many good ideas that others have mentioned like 75 m & m's, or even 12 (7+5) if 75 becomes overwhelming. videos a great idea. does he have a special interest like sports-baseball(if he's a sox or yankee fan there's tons). a good board game? How about getting family history from him and making a little scrapbook/story? get him to talk about his parents/grandparents, find some pix and write a story and give him that. you are so thoughtful and I'm sure spending time and talking with him is the greatest gift an older person could receive. My mom is elderly so I know. As far as the "inconsiderate clods" that gave you what they feel are humorous answers, ignore them.

Investigate things that were going on 75 years ago. What's that 1932? Wasn't that the depression? Find out the top musical hits that year and buy him a CD. I'm thinking of the Andrew Sisters or Benny Goodman - they may be from that era? Were there any inventions that year? If something like the cotton engine, then buy him a cotton shirt. If prohibition, a bottle of wine? If the light bulb, then a flashlight? Maybe there's a publication that's been around for 75 years that you could get him a subscription? Life magazine?

Well, figure out what his interest are!! What's his favorite team, Buy him a blanket or a shirt.. What his favorite movie, Buy him that movie!! or maybe just buy him a movie anyways something action or about the past so he has something to do while he sits there. Maybe buy him a book or puzzels. My grandma likes puzzles.. Just figure out what around his house that he likes or like when he was younger, and active and get him that. Oh, or just get him something you created for him something that is of memories like a collage, or a photo album of just you too together.. Awww, i hope u have good luck with this one and hope i helped in any way... Tell your grandpa i said HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!!

Buy him lottery tickets! or make a money tree out of dollar bills. Make him a collage or scrap book of photos of him and the family and his friends so he can reminisce.. Give him your time TIME is the best thing you can give an elder person I am told. I gave my dad a party and he said he felt like King for a Day and he still talks about it yrs later.. Just a few suggestions from someone that was in your boat a few yrs ago.. GOOD LUCK ..tell him HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!and take lots of pictures if you have a party . He will love looking at them later.

Is he active? Does he have friends? What are his interests? I think giving him a gift certificate to go to dinner and a movie with you would be a PERFECT gift. 75-year-olds have had everything that they want and usually can afford what they want if they haven't. What is valuable..truly valuable is time. See if there is a local playhouse and go to a play, a movie or dinner. Or..if he is a jogger... get him a shuffle and fill it with frank sinatra or doo-wop music!

A book, new pj's, a throw, slippers, a nice comfy pillow, a reading magnify glass stick, or worthers candy. There hard but easy to suck on. I'm a home health care tech and they seem to love those and can eat them with or without teeth. You can also give personal gifts, ya know gifts from the heart. Since he's sick these are all things that are classic, simple, and useful for him. Good luck!!!!!!!!!

How nice of you. Look you know him, we don't. You must have some idea about what pleases him. If you are unsure, ask whichever parent he's the father of. That person grew up with him and should be able to help you make a choice of something that would truly make him happy.

Does he live at home? Get him a gift card to his local grocery store. Does he call people? Get him a long distance phone card. If he lives at home does he like plants. Buy him one that you can plant outside for him.

If he's in a nursing home or even if he's at home get a basket and fill it full of his favorite snacks or if he lives on his own put together a box of microwavable meals or snacks that he will enjoy.

  • Just write him a really nice letter (large font) with a bunch of stories about how you remember him. This will mean more to him than any store-bought item. Or make him his favorite meal or take him to his favorite place or sing him his favorite song. Do something personal. If you don't have that kind of relationship, then just get him a really nice card and a box of Hickory Farms goodies. :)
