Partially dying yard, bare patches mushrooms growing what to do?

I had a new lawn put in a year ago spring and last summer it went very nicely. I did have some small bare patches(no grubs). Put lime down last fall and spring came up and I did some reseeding. some took, some didn't. Honestly I didn't water or fertilize as much as I should have. Started getting lots of weeds and would pull them Planned on overseeding(some of the lawn is good) in the fall, but not sure it's too late. Yesterday in the bare patches mushrooms started growing. It's hot this weekend(north) but that won't last. what should I do to get it into some kind of shape. It's about 20 x 16 feet area, so not huge.

mushrooms are good for the soil. run over them witha lawnmower and then rake them into the dirt. plant some bermuda and kentucky blue grass mix 50/50 .......till the ground with a tiller and cut up dirt clots with a hoe....spread grass seed with a spreader and water... no fertilizer for 7 days and then only light fertilier added using waterhose mix so not to kill the grass seedlings

If you want a nice yard, you HAVE to have a good watering and fertilizing schedule. It would be best to spend the money and put in an automatic sprinkler system. The water will come on and off by itself. You can hire a lawn service to fertilize your lawn for you. Be sure the water will come on after the fertilizing is done.

when mushrooms are growing in your lawn, there is decomposing wood of some sort.. maybe old tree roots, burried mulch... there is no way to get rid of the shrooms, they will be gone as soon as the wood decomposes... as for growing your lawn, fall overseeding is fine... it's getting a bit late for starting new grass in my area -WI- you'll have to check on your area... and are you sure you need to be adding lime to your soil? You should really check your county extention agent for best turf growing in your area.. do a search for: University of (your state) (your county) extention agent... mine is: University of Wisconsin Brown County Extention.. also, do not underestimate the importance of watering... new grass needs this or it will die... check out local lawn care/landscape companies in your area.. call them for advice or check out their web pages for info... not fertilizing will not kill your grass or keep it from germinating... your problem is most likely a watering issue

i stand to be corrected but if you sprinkle lime all over your grass it will no doubt kill it anyway....

most landscapers will sprinkle lime on the subsoil before laying patio's etc. to prevent weed growth....

grass likes lot's of direct sunlight, if your yard is very shaded, eg. by trees or high walls etc, then unfortunately you are likely to have fungi growing in those damp shady area's.

The mushrooms are an indicator of healthy soil. Go ahead and seed,. If it doesn't work you have only squandered a few dollars in seed and you can try again in the spring. RScott
