How many Christians would do this (serious question - details inside)?

Background information: My office is open 7 days a week. Employees bid at intervals for new hours and days off based on senority.

Okay, I was taking a walk through the office and I came across a young woman in tears, talking with her co-workers. She was under a great deal of stress, in her work, her private life, her family. It's simply a difficult time for her right now.

She went on to say that she was always tired because she had "split days off" - she has Sunday and Wednesday off. She is at her wits end because she can't ever get done what she needs to with her days off.

One of the other women there said to her "well why don't you ask X to change your off days. I've got Wednesday and Thursday and I'm fine."

The womans response was a look of horror as she said "You mean work on the sabbath? I could never do that!"

Bah I'm wordy today - the actual question in details in a second...

Update:

SO my question is how many of you feel so strongly about having a sabbath day not work that you would do anything you had to do to not work it? Would that be true if it was harming your health?

The young woman in question is Christian which is why I posed that question, but it's valid for any tradition which sets aside a day for worship.

Thanks!

she should be thankful she gets two days off -- period. thankfully i din't work on sunday and it si something to which i stand pretty firm - there are two exceptions but my boss knows - i'll be in after mass. i would adore having a weekday off - think of how much more you can get done?! it is her choice to not do anything on her Sunday off. while yes, we should haev one day of rest - IMHO that wasn't meaning lying about sleeping all day. there have been times on a sunday that what brings me closer to God is cleaning! something about scrubbing the floors with my beautiful praise and worship -- not thinking about all the other trappings of the day.... t's wonderful!

Going to church is a good thing and the bible says not to miss gathering together with other believers. Jesus healed a man on the sabbath which was against the law in his day. I think it is ok to miss some sundays or some church gatherings. The important thing is to not miss your personal fellowship time with God. Some churches try to control people with guilt and make them be there every time the door is open and the people are tired . God heals and there is supernatural power from God but we are not superman we need rest and relaxation. God loves you ,use common sense about going to church.God is in you heart not just at church. Also Saturday used to be the sabbath day in Jesus time I heard . To work on Sunday to have two days off in a row is not going to be the end of the world. You can go to church on Wednesday and you can listen to preaching on the computer. you should spend time with God everyday if you want to be very fulfilled.

my business is also 7 days a week, the funny thing is that it is the non Christians that are the worst to want Sundays off.

as a Christian my self, I worked for 2 years on every weekend before I started to get weekends off,

but when I am making out the schedule, I do my best to give days off in a group.

some of my employees work 10 hour shift, so that they can get 3 days off, and i also group these.

it does take a certain amount of time to set it up this was, but it does lead to happier employees, and happy employees are more productive.

the bible does not assign an exact day for sabbath only that God created for 6 days and rested on the 7th. Now does the bible say that God created on Monday and Tuesday and etc. up to Saturday and then rested on Sunday? No, Sunday has become the traditional day for Christians though it can technically be any day. When I was working Sunday's I used Friday as my sabbath day.

Be positive on your parents. Use a condom once you need to, %. up after your self, in case you get a cat or canines, have it spayed, call your grannie now and then. you would be ok. do no longer enable some thing you won't be able to see or maybe rather understand is there placed such worry and guilt into you.

One man considers one day more sacred than another; another man considers every day alike. Each one should be fully convinced in his own mind." Romans 14:5

Colossians 2:16 "Therefore do not let anyone judge you by what you eat or drink, or with regard to a religious festival, a New Moon celebration or a Sabbath day."

    Enough said!

It is her choice to get another job. At one time stores were closed on the Sabbath but no longer. It would be nice to have that day off if one believes that it is a day to rest with God but it is not a mandatory thing and only real fundamentalist would object. Peace

The Sabbath is observed under the old Jewish law.

True Christians - who understand their faith and not just blindly accept a false doctrine of their church - will know there is absolutely no prohibition against working "on the sabbath".

Her 'christian' doctrine was probably from the Church 7th Day adventist and they forget that Jesus said that HE is the Sabbath and that we are not to be a respecter of days. We are to take one day and to 'not forsake the gathering of the brethren' and 'there is therefore now NO condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus' and as long as she takes the time to worship God, that is what is important.

She is correct. I don't work on the Sabbath either. But some jobs require it even if you are Christian. The Bible also tells us to respect higher authority in certain matters.

God knows this. if you still love and worship Him, He is not going to condemn you to Hell for that. That is why many churches run week night church services.
