How much is this per hour?

I have always been paid by the hour. I have seen a job posting for a job that pays $30,000/year. What's the correct way to find out how much this works out to per hour?

Update:

It's a government job, so it's probably 35 hours per week. But I think from the answers so far, I had the right idea.

To calculate the number of hours in the year deduct the number of holiday weeks and the number of public holidays.

For example I have 5 weeks holidays and 10 days public holidays.

    This gives 52 - 5 - 2 = 45 weeks

    At 35.75 hrs per week for me = 45 * 35.75 = 1608.75

So at that salary my hourly rate would be

    $30,000 / 1608.75 = $18.65 ph

30,000 divided by 52 (weeks in the year) gives you how much per week. That number divided by 40 (hours generally worked in a week) will give you the answer.

    30,000 / 52 = 576.92

    576.92 / 40 = 14.42 per hour.

Of course, this is a rough estiamte of what they pay. It could be between $11 and $18 per hour.

30,000/52 weeks gives you a gross weekly pay of $576.92. Then divide that by 40 hrs/per week and that gives you $14.42 per hour. You also have to subtract taxes.

divide by 52 to get pay per week...then divide by the numbers of hours per week...usually 35 or 37.5 or 40
