  • I need tips for painting?

I am renovating my bathroom and can save quite a bit of money by painting it myself. I have painted walls before, but never a ceiling or trimwork. Can some experienced painters give me some tips? My contractor will be supplying the paint.

  • Plumbing question for an old house?

I live in an older house. My washing machine backs up into my kitchen sink. I was told that if I have a cheater vent put in near my kitchen sink, it will improve things, as well as help the sink drain more quickly. Is that a good idea? It doesn't sound too expensive. ( and before you ask, yes, I will be hiring a plumber to do the work!)

  • help with blue bus/skytrain?

My friend wants to go from Horseshoe Bay to Brentwood Mall. It's one fare zone. Does she just ask the bus driver for a transfer to get on the skytrain? She thinks if she asks the driver for help, the people behind her will get mad and she will be embarrassed. I've taken the skytrain lots of times, but I've never gone from the ferry to Brentwood. Who's done this?

  • What wine for Christmas dinner?

I have unexpectedly been invited for Christmas dinner. I know he is making turkey and I know he likes wine. Pinot grigiot or Chardonnay?

I live in BC, so if anyone can suggest a reasonably priced BC wine, that would be helpful.

  • home made pasta?

Is there anyone here who makes a lot of home made pasta? The recipe I have tried a couple of times is 1 egg 1 cup flour and 1/2 tsp. salt. The texture is fine, but it lacks flavour.

When I get pasta from a restaurant or a pasta shop where they make their own, the flavour is great, but when I make my own, I am disappointed. I am not talking about the sauce, just the pasta itself. Any ideas?

  • Does anyone know how to knit this ribbon scarf?

I have seen a knitted ribbon scarf that I like but I can't remember how to do it. You knit a couple of stitches in stockinette stitch, and then a couple in garter stitch. At some point, the garter stitches are dropped. It ends up looking like a very narrow scarf with loops on it, al

Does this sound familiar to any knitters? It doesn't really need a pattern, just the method.

  • Getting a facial?

Who can describe getting a facial? I want to give one as a gift to a friend. She is a very modest person, and when she sees people getting them on tv, they always have just a towel wrapped around them. I don't think she would be comfortable doing that. I've never had one either, so i'm not too helpful to her about that. Ideas please.

  • Julia Child 'sChristmas pudding?

Has anyone tried Julia Child's recipe for Christmas pudding? Did you like it? It looks easy, but I'm not spending 6 hours steaming something if it's not tasty. Opinions?

  • Halloween etiquette?

For the last several years, I have been out on Halloween. This year I'm staying home to give out treats. What does everybody give as a treat? If you buy the "fun size" treats, do you give each kid one of those or a handful? I'm on a budget, but I don't want to be known as the Halloween cheapskate either! Help please!

  • Beatles songwriting?

Did Paul and John collaborate on their songs, or did they write separately? I know the song are all credited Lennon/McCartney, but I also know they wrote a lot of them separately, especially toward the end. And I know Paul tried to get that changed, but it was a no go with Yoko.

  • Digital camera advice?

I'm looking for a digitial camera and know next to nothing about photography. I basically want to take photos of friends and family and would like to have a zoom if that's possible in my price range of about $200. I'm assuming that the major brands Cannon, Minolta, Pentax are safe, but I see Sony and HP also have reasonably priced models on the market.

I need tips on what kinds of things I should be looking for so I don't get taken in by a salesman who is just looking for commission or who doesn't know much more than I do. Buying off the internet is not an option.

  • Best mascara?

What's a good brand of mascara that doesn't smudge? Towards the end of the day, I have black smudges under my eyes. I'm using Maybelline Unstoppable at the moment. I don't mind spending more money, but if it's going to smudge anyway, what's the point? Advice anyone?
