I need tips for painting?

I am renovating my bathroom and can save quite a bit of money by painting it myself. I have painted walls before, but never a ceiling or trimwork. Can some experienced painters give me some tips? My contractor will be supplying the paint.

Why is your contractor supplying the paint? You can purchase your own paint for less. Your contractor is adding a profit margin to the cost of the paint.

Ceiling first. Use painter's tape and tape off the molding. Cut in the ceiling using a small (4") roller. If you use a brush you will have brush marks. Use a very short nap roller (not foam) to paint the ceiling. BTW - You need to prime first with stain blocking latex primer.

Tape off the bottom side of the trim and prime and paint the walls - roller cut in, low nap roller for primer and paint. Paint in a "W" or "X" pattern.

For both the ceiling and the walls plan on 2 light coats even if the paint is "One Coat". One coat will leave roller marks.

After the ceiling and walls are painted and dry tape off both and paint your trim. Use a 2" angled brush. 2 thin coats.

    Good luck

Source(s): I HATE to paint but always do it myself because painters cost more than I want to spend.

ceiling first. cut in, just like you would a wall, and roll. then do the walls. follow the same steps for any consecutive coats. do the trim after the last coat on the walls. i'd wait a few days, for the walls to cure, then use frog tape along the bottom edge of the wall, above the trim, so you don't get the trim color on the wall. tape along the floor as well, at the bottom of the trim, to keep the paint off the floor. use a decent brush with an angled edge--it gives you a lot more control. good luck, and have fun with it!
