Cabbage Rolls?

I'm making cabbage rolls for the 1st time and I found a recipe on the internet that my husband says sounds just like his mom used to make (Since she has passed on I cannot ask her for her recipe) My question is with the meat you put inside should I cook the ground beef first? r put it in raw and let it cook as it bakes, the recipe did not specify. Does anyone know?

Update:

Thank you thank you thank you!!! I have every thing ready to go then! Any other special hints that might help me?

yum yum. you leave the meat raw, and add your rice, vegetables, seasoning, or whatever else your recipe calls for. Blanch the cabbage until soft, roll the raw meat mixture up into the cabbage leaves, add your gravy or tomato juice and bake.

For my recipe (great great grandparents brought it with them from poland)

    hamburger

    shredded: potatoes, carrots and onion

    add garlic, salt and pepper

    (and whatever else sounds good)

half cooked rice, or minute rice

roll into blanched cabbage leaves, cover with salted tomato juice or V8. Cover and bake. Bake at 350 for about an hour and check the rolls to see if the meat is done, or until they smell really, really good.

when you blanch the leaves, put them into ice water to cool the cabbage quicker, and try to keep the core down in the hot water.

trying not to break the cabbage leaves is the hard part, don't worry if they are too broke to hold any filling chop them up and stuff around the rolls.

    enjoy

You must part cook the ground beef first. This will help during the baking prosess. Be sure to season the meat with salt and ground pepper too. When i say part cook, i mean brown it off in a pan. I hope your husband enjoys the great cooking.

No, you don't cook the meat first....but you DO cook the rice first.

you let it cook while it bakes. personally i like to brown it once i mix my spices and rice. make the little patties, brown them then wrap them. hope this helps.
