    This is a toughie.

There will eventually come a time in the life of all senior citizens when they will have to give up driving. As we age, our reaction time slows down. Vision and hearing impairments set in. It will get to the point when it is no longer safe for seniors to be on the road.

Many elderly people resent this. Telling them not to drive is taking away their independence. They will have to rely on family and friends for everything.

Unfortunately, that is something that many of us will have to face, if we are not already.

You can try to talk to your mother. Chances are that she will be angry and resentful. Tell her that you are concerned with her safety and the safety of others. You can also talk to her doctor and voice your concerns. The other option is to contact DMV and inquire about what it would take to have your mother's driver's license revoked. That would be the last resort.

Start by talking with her and work your way up. I hope that she will realize that you are only doing this because you love her and care about what happens to her. Good luck.

Has she been in some accidents recently?

Are there tickets on her record lately?

    Can she see fairly well?

    Is her mind reasonably clear?

Your answers should determine whether she should be driving or not, and should not be determined by age alone.

If she can get her license, there is little you can or should do, unless you are sure she is really unfit to drive.

If there is a mental issue, you may need to be declared her Legal Power Of Attorney, so you can have more control over her safety. But do try to be respectful.

if you don't think she is capable of driving...notify the DOT and they will take care of it for you....then you are in the clear ...and mother will love you...always..........God bless
