Don't you wonder why some people would answer questions without having any kind of first hand knowledge of it?

I keep stumbling on Mafiagirl's silly stereotypes and hearsays in questions about marriage and parenthood secions. I am sure, she must have some knowledge on some other subjects, but relationships ( the commited kind ), marriage and parenthood are not that. Shouldn't we talk about the things we know?

Update:

Edit: Thank you for your thoughts. I do have a comment for some of you though: What kind of a degree does one need to have first hand knowledge in marriage and parenthood? And how do I single out "poor Mafiagirl" by pointing out her self disclosed on many occasions unmarried and childless selfrightious status? Do read the question before trying to jump to conclusions please. Thank you.

Update 4:

Edit: Dear Mafiagirl, I am a happily married lady with a 5yo daughter, have PHD in world's history and another one in chemistry. I am also a world traveler and I do speak 6 different languages fluently ( French, Russian and English are just some of them). I own a pretty large research company and have OTHER PEOPLE working for me. I also still model from time to time, even though in my 41 years I don't need the money. BTW, psychology is a passion of mine: I have been studying it on my own for years now. I have never gotten personal with any of you people in my answers: nothing you have said here ( some of you anyway ) have anything to do with the question I've asked or with the reality of my life. My question never called you dumb, classless, useless or overly sensitive, which I am sure now you must be. However, it is not any of my consern.

If truth and first-hand knowledge were prerequisites, there would be few, if any, answers.

One thing I have noticed is the rampant ignorance and outright lies that abound on G&WS.

I don't think you have to have first hand knowledge or experience of things in order to have an opinion. And because it is an opinion, it is valid.

What I do find lost on many in this section is the notion that things can be learned from others. New views and insights are being offered daily - some may resonate, others may disgust...but an open mind is the most wonderful thing in order to learn and grow.

It's very unfair of you to point the finger at MafiaGirl. People answer questions that interest them, not necessarily what they are educated in.

My God! If I only answered questions on my education I'd be bored stiff. And frankly, I haven't been here long enough to get too personal about my personal experiences and life trials in the open forum.

There are many, many people here who spew trash from their mouths daily and you choose to single out one single person. How sophisticated of you. I guess the previous attacks on MafiaGirl made her an easy target. You could have made your point without pointing fingers.

Good job! Your mother would be proud.

Edit: I did read your entire question. You used her as an example. That is called singling her out. My point was that if you eliminated the first line of your question it may have been an interesting one but instead, you named an example and turned it into a bashing. Your questions and answers normally are very sophisticated and I have noticed your postings before because they were respectful and interesting. This is not up to your usual standards.

That might be nice.... However, it's good for people to form their own opinions on things before they experience them. I think a person should be humble enough to give a qualified, "I'm not married, but I think...." rather than, "Don't you know that XYZ is the best choice for married women?" with zero life experience to back it up...... But heck, I had ideas about parenting and marriage before I had either, so expressing those ideas is fine as long as you clarify your lack of experience.

What does first hand knowledge of any thing have to do with answering a question? Especially since most of the questions here are opinion based. You don't need a degree to give an opinion. Besides the feminist here seem to answer questions about anti feminism all the time.

    So,,,all this is on who's judgement call? Are you making the rules at your home?, employment ?, social setting "?{if you had one { would you be on this site?}

I ask many questions and I have the back ground to prove it but that is not in the agenda and rule book of EEOC {equal Rights} I think as long as you are interesting and have class" with tact and diplomancy then we all have fun Ps while you weree learning history through theory of I was making the HISTORY

17 people so far answered a question about a pregnant woman being fired. How many of those 17 people have 'first-hand' knowledge of that woman's situation. How many of those 17 people who answered, worked directly next to that woman and knew every conversation and the entire situation?

There's educated answers, opinions, fallacies, and misunderstood comprehension of the question. That's it.

Shouldn't we also require some form of expertise to be proven before we can allow people to ask stupid questions?
