Christians... why are you being so hypocritical?

I am a Christian. I come here a good deal of the time and it hurts me to see so-called Christians saying the things that they do! Christians are supposed to turn the other cheek and spread the word of God's love. Instead I see them antagonizing people, telling Atheists to rot in hell, etc... How can you get angry at others for not treating you with respect when you yourself are not showing respect? 99% of the time I am offended by the things Atheists say on here but I don't retaliate with anger. When you say these things, all it does is give them more fuel for their fire!

How do you justify your actions??

Update:

I apologize... It was wrong for me to generalize. I know that not all Christians on this site are the ones behaving this way. The ones that do, really need to take a better look at themselves. And if it is just trolls posing as Christians to make us look bad, well then they just need to grow up.

Point well made, my dear! I think a lot of us Christians might need to spend more time concentrating on the love that Jesus showed for us and instructed us to show to others so that others could be made to understand God's love and seriously let go of all formalities whereas we might feel in the place to judge others. The truth is stated in His Word where it tells us not to judge others or we will be harshly judged before our Father, which is in Heaven. He has instructed us to be disciples, not discipline-rs! Come one fellow Christians! Where is all the love?

First of all, not all these so-called Christians that antagonize are mature and some of them aren't even true, but psuedo-Christians, wolves that are clothed in sheep's clothing. Some of them are 12 year old kids who have nothing better to do than to antagonize grown-ups, others may carry a Christian title but have never known what it is to be born-again and follow the faith that was only taught to them, through tradition or by inheritance.

If these comments that you see, make your spirit cringe, consider this: This forum is just a small example of what the spiritual realm is all about. We are not battling with the opinions of the flesh, but in actuality we are battling with the spiritual forces that would like to keep people in darkness. You know that that your Christian family is not perfect, and that they can as easily lash out in frustration or discouragment just like anyone else.

You're concern is the sincere love that you show in your in your answers, never minding the splinter that you see in your brother's eye. We will be judged by God for our own actions.

I used to get upset also, but the Lord showed me that this is a good place to practice patience, kindness, love for both our enemies and our brothers.

Therefore, as God's chosen people, holy and dearly loved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience. Bear with each other and forgive whatever grievances you may have against one another. Forgive as the Lord forgave you. -Colossians 3:12-13

It offends me as a Christian to read about the hellfire thing, though personally I don't think such a place exists. I have been told by fundamentalists that I will burn in hell if I don't accept this as a literal teaching in scripture. I also get peeved when I see Atheists reminding Christians, even if the question posed is not even related to them, that they hate Christianity because their God condemns non-believers to hell. If they are such learned scholars of the bible they would understand what is literal, metaphorical, symbolic and parable.

I think that some people who come on here are trying to get a rise out of others and/or are not who and what they claim to be.

I agree with you Sarah and hope one of them answers. I have a friend, who will NEVER miss church, and who, at least on the surface, appears to be a devout and pious Christian. But, in actuality, and actions speak louder than words, he is cruel, will go to any lengths to get revenge for a perceived wrong, he is always making fun of and criticizing others and when he is in a bad mood, just plain mean to people, especially his family - but seems to think all of that is OK as long as he never misses church and tells people what a good, kind, I'll give my shirt off my back, kind of guy and he does love to preach. But when I call him on any of his actions, he attacks. I've often told him that just because he never misses church and tells people that he is a good Christian - that his actions are what matter to God, and although he may fool a lot of people, he can't fool God. Why doesn't he get that? If you a truly a Christian, then act like one and don't be a hypocrite!

You're right..there is no justification. I haven't been on this site in awhile because of just this reason. Instead of respecting each others opinions..everyone strikes out at each other.

Although I do admit sometimes the remarks anger me, they just seem to be antagonizing. Christians telling atheist to rot in hell, Atheists telling Christians they are stupid and being lead around by the nose by false beliefs.

You my dear are a very good example of a true Christian.

  • Sarah...as a non Christian you are probably one of the FEW who are doing exactly what your faith preaches. TY.

That is all any one wants really is just the freedom to choose their own choices and not be told they are going to HELL if they do not.

I am not an atheist either, but Native American and I believe in Mother Earth.

I appreciate others beliefs but am so often amazed on how fast so many Christians will thumb you down and slam you down because you do not follow them.

I have many Christian friends and they never force anything on me or vice versa. That is how it should be mutual respect.

SO thank you for speaking up for the many that are doing exactly as you said.

I support your right why won't they support others rights? You seem to which is awesome, why can't others be more open like you!!

The Bible says Christ will come again. The Bible CLEARLY says no man will know when. We dont cherry-pick verses, dear person who has obviously never cracked the book open, we just understand the value of context. YOU cherry pick verses and use them against each other. Unless you can tell me you have read and studied it front to back a few times, you dont KNOW the context or background and therefore any random verses YOU find are cherry picking. So lets just get that straight. ================= I believe the Bible as its written. It doesnt take much brainpower when you move from one writer, who speaks mainly in a historical manner, to another writer who is all about symbolism and allegory. Again, you are selling yourself out. You have no idea what you're talking about. And by the way, Im not SAYING my interpretation is better than someone elses. Whatever interpretation brings a person close to God has done its job. The Bible is not our God. Its a tool we use to understand our God.

Here! Here! Well said. I get tired of non believers calling me names based on their opinion of a few "rotten eggs" in the Christian category. No Christian should antagonize or tell anyone they will rot in hell. God is the judge - not whacked out "so called" Christians. In fact, are those who do that really Christians? You say to turn the other cheek. I do that to a point. However, God does not want us to be doormats to their blasphmy. We do need to say something to defend our point of view and opinion.

It is VERY IMPORTANT to realize that most often it is an atheist posting in disguise as a Christian, defaming atheists, and vice-versa, because Christians are not all above this sort of childish gaming. However i must admit i've done my share of apologizing for losing my temper in here.

Assume it is insincere, ignore it or laugh at it, and move on. You'll live longer LOL!

The is an example of Christians behaving badly, Christians not following Jesus. Here is biblical behavior to your (three) observations.

Telling anyone that they are going to hell clearly shows that they have forgotten "God not man judges".

Christians are suppose to teach all nations, not convert everyone.

Christians who encounter non belief are to do exactly what Jesus did, they are to move on.

Answer: God gave us His word not as a conversion tool but for our benefit, for believers. You would think God's word would be enough.
