What happens after 3rd DUI?

This is the 3rd DUI for my friend in 7 years. Besides a ton of fees, will there be jail time? How long? Is there away to avoid jail time by paying more fees?

All the DUI's were in California.

Update:

I didn't ask for you guys to share your morales and feelings with me. I know it was stupid, I'm not even trying to defend HER actions. I just want facts, so if you have them GREAT, if not, I could really care less about what you have to say. Thanks:)

its possible that with a good lawyer, he will serve no jail time, they even have a weekend program where he can go to jail on friday night, and get out on sunday evening

but you can be sure he wont be seeing his license anytime soon

If it's a third DUI it is likely you may have a Substance use disorder, in the form of Alcoholism. It is possible to ask the judge to stay your 120 day jail sentence (the norm for 3rd DUI in CA) for a 30 day residential drug and alcohol program. The disease of addiction to any mind and mood altering substance is jails, instutions and death. Please google local AA or NA meeting in your area. Good luck wish you the best

Your friend needs to quit drinking because he is obviously not responsible enough to handle his alcohol. I think the third time is a felony. He should have his license revoked permanently and never be allowed to drive again. Driving is a privilege, not a right. He should spend at least 5 years in jail. It will give him plenty of time to think about his actions and give him time to detox.

Hopefully it is life in Pelican Bay. Your friend risks hundreds of people's lives because he is irresponsible, selfish and stupid. If he hasn't learned by now he won't. It is a shame someone will have to be killed before he is taken off the road for a significant time period.

By the way he is risking your life and your family's life when he drives impaired. You never know who he will end up killing.

Hopefully he goes to prison, pays some massive fines, and gets his driving priviledges taken away for years.

With a good lawyer he can probably avoid jail time though, care of our "pay for what you get" justice system.

Hopefully there will be jail time. Your Friend is truly blessed if they have not killed someone while driving under the influence. No sympathy here.

your friend needs a lawyer and a good one right away.

my former neighbor got a dui and it took about two years to process it. the lawyer kept continuing it forever and eventually file lost / cop didn't show / it was dismissed.

i'd get that kind of lawyer lol.
