Do all "older" folks love Gene Autry as much as my mom?:)?

She is running us batty with this 100 nonstop hours of Gene Autry marathon stuff! She is up all night and she collects every movie he ever made! I am worried she will be ill from staying up all night! She has been up for 3 days now with hardly any sleep at all! Maybe an hour or so per day! She seems to be enjoying herself! I am glad about that! But it has ruined her days and nights pattern. I would never presume to tell her what to do,(she would smack me) so how should I express my concern about this without her getting upset with me? Oh, she is in the early stages of Alzheimer's! I love my mom very much, but she is stubborn and does not take advice from us too well! Should I just mind my own business? Am I being too much of a worry wart? Thanks, and I can take the truth!

I like Gene Autry, but not to that extent. I think it's wonderful you're concerned for you mom and you respect her enough to not just expect her to do what you think is right. I'd let her enjoy herself right now, but keep an eye out that this doesn't continue for her health's sake. You may want to see if she's on any new medication that would cause behavior change.

I had a great aunt with Alzheimers and visit friends who are in a nursing home who have it also. People react differently and often their personality totally changes. One thing is the same though, whatever they are saying or seeing, is real to them. You will get no where arguing, it only agitates them. You may want to look into a support group, so you can get and share ideas with others, who are dealing with the same thing. My best to you and your mom.

I guess that her doctor might offer a few suggestions, but this phase will hopefully pass. I have known families with someone who has Alzheimers and they have gone through a lot worse than this.

I always liked Roy Rogers but when I was about 8 years old Gene Autry sat directly in back of my sister and I at a rodeo. I was in seventh heaven for a long time after that. Also, I loved the era when he owned the Angels baseball team.

Hope you can get some help from the medical profession and your mother's condition can improve.

No I never liked gene autry. My mum did but I just didn't find the baby face and tough cowboy character very compatible.

My dad liked westerns but I ve never been into them.

I suppose if this is a one off now and again thing it will be alright let her have a bit of fun.

I never much cared for him when I was young, but he did do that Rudolph song, so...It's okay for her to be hung up on something. It is her connection to the past.

Just keep a watchful eye on her. This is rather strange behavior. If you can get her to a doctor, please do. My sleep pattern is also destroyed. I can't sleep at night until after 2 a.m. I used to get up at 4:30 am, and I think I am just trying to catch up. Also, I enjoy the alone time. No neighbors bugging me or calling me at that time of night.

Trust me, when she is sleepy, she will go to sleep. Let her enjoy her time which may not be too long.

    Sent with love.

When I was a kid Gene Autry and TV's Annie Oakley were my favourites. I remember one year they were on tour together, and I didn't think I could go because I had a cast on my leg. Somehow I got to go and Annie Oakley (Gail Davis, I think) actually autographed my cast. I cried when they took it off a couple of weeks later. The autograph didn't survive. :-)

Nope I was Roy Rogers, The Cisco Kid and The Lone Ranger--Gene did too much singing and not enough action. I don't watch the old ones now and didn't earlier.

    Not to that extent.

Many people preferred big band music, jazz, Broadway show tunes, pop ballads, classical, or what they called 'beautiful music,' to the kind of Western music Autry recorded.

And not everyone was a fan of Western movies, either.

Gene was ok, but Roy, Cisco & Lone Ranger were much better.

Gene did sing too much & I love Country music, just not his.

Hope all goes well with your mom

    Take care

    This answers your question:

"Should I just mind my own business? Am I being too much of a worry wart? Thanks, and I can take the truth!"

The answer is yes. Let her enjoy her life her way.

Yes. But love is interpreted in many different ways. You can love someone, like your family, friends, etc., but not be IN love with them. And yes, you can care about someone without loving them. I don't love a lot of my friends but I still care for their well being.
