Apple seed propagation?

A friend of mine gave me some apples to collect and plant the seeds from.

These apples are some of the best heirloom apples for baking, pie making and applesauce.

I weant to get some trees growing on my farm. My friend told me they planted the seeds and nothing ever grew from them. I am thinking there is a certain way you must prepare them for planting.

Can anyone please give me some sound advice on this?

My Grandfather planted his apple seeds in flower pots and kept them in a small greenhouse til they started to grow. When they got about 6 " high and the last frost had passed, he transplanted them. He had a small orchard.

apple trees are rarely produced from seed as you would have to wait about twenty years for fruit.also the fruit of the tree may not bare any resemblance to the apple the seed came from.you need a tree of the apple variety which if it can not be bought can be acquired by grafting a cutting from the original a tree onto a suitable rootstock
