I have one like that too.

I usually feed them twice a day.Morning and evening. But at home they know they can be let out whenever they want plus they have a daily routine of eating then going to the park before I go to work to romp so there's plenty of opportunity to go potty where on the road there's not.So rather than watch him put himself thru sheer misery I walk them everytime the truck stops and give them a drink. When we stop for the night they go for a walk and I feed them before bed and we go for several walks thruout the night and a big one before we leave in the morning so they'll be relaxed in the truck until we stop again.

If your dog is very young it's natural for him to feel a little uncomfortable going potty in a strange place so give him time and be patient.Dogs have got to find just the right spot to go or the won't go at all.The faster they move the sooner they'll go too.So frequent stops in places where they can run off leash is best I've found to prompt them to do everything they have to do.A a 5 or 10 minute pit stop won't get it.Whereever you go theres going to be towns to go thru and you need to find an empty field where your dog can run for at least half an hour

Some dogs stress from travel. You can go to a Pets Mart type store and get something for calming, the stuff I have contains natural ingredients, so see if that helps. The more you travel the better the poor dog will be.

I travel with my dog to detroit often and I live in chicago. I pull over to her use the bathroom on the side of the road. Normally dogs have a routine so just follow it on the road. If your dog goes at 7am, 4pm, and 10pm those are around the times you should pull over for her. It will add a little time to your trip but you can also rest your legs and stretch.

I would say make sure you set aside time to give her a nice walk each day while you're away. I've found that when my dog is walking and really 'gets things moving,' she can't help but go to the bathroom (unless she is constipated). If you'd like something a little more guaranteed, talk to your vet about your options.

I had been through that years ago when I went on my honeymoon and my dog was kenneled for a week. She did't pee either. As soon as she saw me she did both.Bring something of yours with you next time to the kennel,a shirt,sheet....She will feel safer with a familiar smell.Bring her food bowl...so she will havea sense of security and know u will be coming back.It is a scary thing to be caged and away from your family.

    Good luck for next time,

    Michele
