Cassiopeia, she doesn't look like a beautiful woman in the sky to me but she is meant to, which is nice. She's normally quite easy to find too, at least in the northern hemisphere. She reminds me of my own personal experiences with beautiful women, distant and entirely unobtainable.

I don't have just one. Orion was the first one I was able to recognize, and when I got my first telescope, the first non-planet I looked at through it was M42, so from a nostalgic standpoint, I like Orion. A few summers back, I got on this "Globular Cluster Hunting Kick" and became fairly familiar with part of the sky I had ignored for quite sometime. This got me to appreciate constellations such as Ophiuchus, Hercules, Canes Venatici. Last summer, while trying to document visual magnitudes of variable stars (not an easy task form the suburbs), I enjoyed learning more about Perseus and Cetus. Perseus was even more exciting when I said to myself, "that smudge wasn't there last week," and, as I later realized, I was witnessing Comet Holmes, an object that very unexpectedly burst into naked eye visibility. I suppose, if I ever get a chance to explore the southern constellations, this list will grow even more.

My favorite is Orion for several reasons:

+ it sounds like my name (Ryan)

+ it's one of the easiest constellations to see, both in terms of the brightness of the stars AND its resemblance to the mythological figure (it's easy to pick out shoulders, feet, belt, and even the head, upraised arm, and shield)

+ it has some of the most easily recognizable stars (Betelgeuse, Rigel) and formations (Orion Nebula, Orion's Belt) in the sky

+ it is a winter constellation, and is high in the sky on my birthday

Carina, the Keel. One of the components of the former constellation Argo Navis, the Ship Argo (cf Jason & the Argonauts).

I have to travel to see it, but once I get there it's an amazingly rich collection of nebulae and star clusters. It's home to Canopus, the 2nd brightest star in the sky. It reminds me of good times with friends in places like Australia and Costa Rica.

Orion - The Hunter with his shield (or net), sword, belt and two companion dogs Canis Major and minor.

I don't know much about the mythology, however, there are some great easy deep sky objects that are accesable in even small equipment. Betelgause has always facinated me in as much as its sheer size and obvious red coulour.

Source(s): EDIT: seems Orion is a popular choice! :-)

Ma constellation favorite est la contellation d'Orion.

Il etait un homme fort qui desobeit a son chef,il fut tue et fut change en constellation.

Mon heros mythologique est Atlas.Il eut a supporter le ciel sur ses epaules.

I like Orion, simply because its bright, easy to find, and the Orion Nebula around the "sword" is a fascinating and beautiful part of the sky.

All of them. I also enjoy the stories attached to them. I just enjoy the entire sky. :) :) :)
