converting mov files?

I am trying to convert my mov files taken with my digitial camera to edit my home movies but once I convert to AVI the quality is severly lost. Is there any way to correct this.

    I've just tried VisiCrop which is work ok to me.

    SUPER can convert most any multimedia files to many different sizes and bitrates (including mov to avi). What you want to do it have the settings at max (things like bitrate and quality). That way it will be as close to the original as possible.

    Then click on the "download and use" link in the middle of the page
