We had so many that we went out and bought live catch traps. We used peanut butter on bread for the bait. They love peanut butter. We have successfully relocated 36 in one season. We took them 13 miles away to a beautiful new home leaving them piles of food for their new start. When we researched this is said to take them at least 10 miles away. Good Luck.

There is the humane way which has been suggested which is to relocate 10 miles away. I have used the mothball treatment in their holes, they just dig a new hole. Chipmunks were chewing through the siding in my house. They had a ballroom entrance and other minor entrances. I had my house resided but that is a drastic measure. Chipmunks (certain varities) are hibernators and will be gone for the winter. The less humane ways are a cat; a shotgun; poison and a hound dog. The hound dog will relentlessly pursue the chipmunks until they leave just because they are exhausted. The least humane way but quite effective is to fill a bucket with water, float sunflower seeds in the water and the creatures drownd in the water trying to get the seeds. If you want to trap them and relocate; just leave a deep garbage bucket ourdoors full of sunflower seeds. The chipmunks will fall into the garbage can and cannot get out. You can then relocate the chippies. I have mixed emotions about chipmunks and went with the hound/cat combination.

    Expert's advice--

    "1Step One

go to you local hardware store and purchase chipmunk repellent

    2Step Two

spray this repellent along the base of your home and lightly over the rest of your house

    3Step Three

make sure that when you spray these chemicals around the base of your home that it is a heavy spray"

    Or

try the moth balls method first and chemicals if all else fails.

    Good luck!

Find out it there is any kind of plant they dislike and plant it. I don't know why you would want to get rid of them though - they are soooo cute!
