What Types of Foods Do Anorexics Eat?

And what foods do they avoid? I know some avoid fatty foods, but I heard some live off it, so they won't binge. I also heard they rely more on how many calories are in foods, rather than fat? Can someone help me, I need the correct information for homework??

Update:

I know that not all anorexics starve themselves, that's at the worst stage. I'm talking about when they are actually eating?

When I was in the worst stage of my anorexia my diet consisted of:

1 or 2 spoonfulls of Special K cereal.

1 tablespoon of Light and Fit yogurt

1 tiny bite of a protein bar

    1/2 ounce of chicken

I know. it was terrible. Im so happy to have gotten through that stage.

It's different for every person. It's not really logical. I used to eat bananas and parmesan cheese (sprinkled on lettuce) and those foods are often on a lot of people's unsafe list. Then again, I could never eat yogurt or almonds (when I found out they were seven calories each and two calories from fat, I felt more betrayed than Jon Snow) but a lot of anorexics would totally eat these.

Generally an anorexic will find a few foods that they feel they can eat and portion safely, and have weird obsessions with them. I would down packets of aspartame and binge on frozen corn (your body can't process the nutrients in that form). A lot of anorexics will eat rice cakes, though I never could because carbs. Diet Coke is an entire food group. Seriously, even though it hurts like a ***** to swallow, you just constantly down it. Obviously green tea, lettuce, celery is a big one.

    Types Of Food To Eat

Anorexics would be unable to process the usual foods such as carbs, proteins, good fats etc. As their bodies have become used to surviving on next to nothing, the food would be too rich for their stomach. If you do not eat, your stomach shrinks (the reverse for overeating which is why obese people never feel full as their stomachs have stretched). This means that a tiny amount of food is enough for an anorexic to feel full to the brim!! It is recommended during recovery, to start off eating light foods such as salads with a little dressing on, fruits with a calorific value (ie: tinned fruit in syrup), and to introduce other food groups slowly. For example, adding a small amount of chicken to a salad, followed by adding a little potato or rice aswell when the person feels ready. Aim for 3 meals a day if possible, but even 1 meal a day to begin with is a step in the right direction if thats all the person's body can manage! Wholemeal bread and cereal are also great for increasing the energy levels and introducing carbs. Rich or fatty foods such as cheese, pastry, sweets etc are usually the last food groups anorexics feel they can re-introduce to their diet due to the physical AND mental capacity to keep them down long enough for the body to digest. Hope this helps! :)

Okay for everyone saying they don't eat anything at all, obviously they eat otherwise they would be dead! They just don't eat much at all. They spend a lot of time figuring out portions of food to keep them alive but still be extreamely skinny. Plus they exercise a ton! I would know, not just from my experience but from friends and family.

I can't speak for everyone but personally when I have no choice but to eat something i'll eat anything with negative calories i.e. lettuce, cucumbers, apples, melon.

Let me explain; there are some foods which contain less calories then our bodies burn to digest them. Ergo they have negative calories.

They both are Ideal for your health. If you eat both, you're better off. But yea, I had choose fruits because they taste better.

It will depend on the fruit or plant linked to a comparison. In the event you compare a farreneheit to a carrot, the carrot is the better of the two nutritional. When you compare an avocado to the carrot, then your avocado is better. The two the apple and avocado, are fruits.

there is no one type of food anorexics eat or don't eat. every person is different w/ the main thing in common that they have some psychological reason they fast and try to avoid food. many anorexics try to eat "negative-calories" foods. a negative calorie food is a food that takes more calories to digest it than it gives. many think that fruits and vegetables are like this. this is a myth though because the only food that is even remotely close to this is celery. anyway, my point is that every anorexic person is different in what he/she decides to eat or not eat, there really isn't one unifying food.
