What can I feed my fish? (he has balance issues)?

I have a swordtail (kind of like a silver goldfish) and he isn't full grown yet, but not quite a baby and I had to move him into his own bowl away from the other "bully" fish, which he's been in for a few months just fine b/c he develpoed a balance issue he is almost always head down, tail up, so it's hard for him to eat (obviously he is though b/c he's alive) but..I've tried correcting it with different methods and nothing worked, but other than that he's OK..lol.....

is there anything I can feed him that will sink to the bottom so it'll be easier for him to eat?

Thanks :-)

Try feeding him some frozen bloodworms.

they are healthy for them, but also contain a little more fat, which will definetly help his balance issues

Hi TT143, You really need to be keeping him in a filtered environment & looking after your water parameters-as he is obviously not in the best of health. Perfectly healthy fish soon deteriorate in a bowl so you might think about getting a better tank set up for him immediately. You may well find, good water conditions produce a remarkable recovery.

Head down is often a symptom of an imbalance issue & feeding small amounts of cooked, shelled peas may be of some help-especially if it's only constipation as peas have a mild laxative effect-He needs to be in a filtered environment for any improvement to happen.

    1. Sounds like swim bladder disease to me.

    2. Try cooking a pea, peeling the skin off and putting that in there, it helps to clear out the digestive tract and help with airbubbles in tummies.

    3. There are medicines that can help with swim bladder as well make sure your water parameters are always pretty good for optimum health.

    4. The pea should sink.

    5. The amount you should put in should be half of the size of his eye.

    6. Try a pelleted food which sinks to the bottem, or maybe soaking flakes for a few seconds and then putting those in.

sounds to me as if your fish has dropsy which is a blader problem,, there is nothing you can do with it, it will end up killing the fish,,,dont get me wrong when i say this, it might sound cruel but flush it down the toilet,,,,,,,,(SORRY)
