Yes it should. You go to any other country and they have there own language that people use and foreigner are expected to learn the language and use it. I strongly feel it needs to be the same in America. We speak English here and everyone should have to learn our language.

Yes, since traditionally the US has been an English-speaking country. The US is the only country that does not have a national language that is declared by law. This was discovered in the 1980's I believe, and since then, immigrants have taken advantage of this oversight by refusing to learn English.

We should each petition our congressmen and demand that English be declared the national language of the US, and that all business will be transacted in English.

American English is America's national language.

Edit: I don't think everyone should have to learn English. If you want to be fair about it, everyone should speak a Native American dialect like Tslagi because the Native Americans were here long before the English therefor English isn't technically America's first language.

Also someone said that Spanish should stay in Latin America. Think of the contributions that Spanish/Mexican/Cuban/Latin people give America. America's economy would probably plummet without the 40 million Spanish-speakers that live here.

America's mix of languages works more to our advantage because we have better relationships with other countries. Many countries recognize English as a second language (such as Eastern Asian countries like Japan) and America should recognize both Spanish and English in my opinion. While English would probably be a main language because it has more speakers, I don't think Spanish-speakers should be discounted.

Perhaps English could be a government language (like in Canada how French is used in formal government but you won't find a lot of speakers outside Quebec).

Also America is a melting pot of different countries. The Spaniards owned Florida, the Native Americans, Polynesian people in Hawaii (Hawaiian), the French-Creole of New Orleans. The English weren't the only ones to settle here in America. Many different cultures influenced America's beginning.

It should be enshrined as a national amendment that English is the Official languages like other countries. Let me try to go to Mexico and try to get away with demanding they speak English to me and see what happens. It should be the same way for them.

yes. it should. because the people that came here. were ENGLISH men. and spoke ENGLISH not spanish.

i think that spanish should have stayed over in like latin america. and places where it originated.

that just makes up have to be smarter.

which were already probably the most smartest country

there is. besides china. becuase they make alot of technology and stuff. and are more advanced.

but i think that english should be the national language becuase spanish was not ment for the americans lol.

but idk maybe thats just my opinion.

we didnt bring english over to other countries.

it was their choice to learn it.

now we dont have a choice but to learn spanish in the us.

    bcuz everyone speaks it.

so now. we have to be bi lingual.

which some people dont want to waste their time doing.

    so heres your answer.

i hope it was detailed enough =)
