Can I get a ticket from another driver? With a camera?

This vehicle was following incredibly close to me the other night while it was downpouring and had their high beams on the whole time, and I even pulled over to the shoulder of the road for them to pass me and I thought they wanted to race me or something. So I just thought it was another aggressive driver and let them go and pass me, but they wouldn't at one point the car was driving in the opposite lane, for about a mile still flashing their high beams at me and following close I even had to speed up because they would have plowed into the back of me on the wet roads.

Finally we both were stopped at a traffic light and the other driver yelled that I had my high beams on which I didn't even realize and they shouted something really vulgar and showed me a video camera and said I was going to get a ticket in the mail. They were driving far more dangerous in the rain than I was after realizing all this and what should I do if I get a ticket???

Update:

It was downpouring by the way & I could barely see the road especially being blinded by their high beams.

They were driving alongside of me I guess trying to get my attention, but being really reckless about it...they could have just passed me or stayed behind me without their high beams on. I wasn't speeding, cos the road was sharp and narrow.

I thought about that headlight game that people play & that it could have been a crazy road rager. It was late at night on a quiet road. I didn't want to start any trouble with anyone.

I wouldn't worry about this too much. The person would have to take their camera footage to the police and they would have to write out the ticket and send it to you. You would then have the chance to fight the ticket in court. At that point, the police would have to prove that the footage is reliable, that you were the driver and that you were breaking the law.

In reality, the police are skating on thin ice as it is with giving tickets. If everyone fought the tickets in court, as they have a right to do, most of them would have to be thrown out. Either the officer wouldn't have time to show up for the court date or the evidence would not hold up. So, I have serious doubts that the police are going to get involved with this.

Sometimes people get confused between a citizens arrest and enforcing the law. A citizen can hold someone who is breaking the law until the police arrive. But, they can't actually take them to jail, fine them or do anything else. If you are on a public road, only the police can give you a ticket.

Regarding his causing you a ticket based on his video, he was bluffing. If he dared show up at a police stations with that video, they would have questioned his judgement on following YOU so closely, and being distracted by operating a video camera when he should have been driving.

BTW, you speeding up because he was following you so close was NOT a safe move. It just made his tailgating that much more dangerous. This was even more true on wet roads, where slowing down is the SAFEST thing a driver can do.

Usally if people flash their high beams at you that either means youv'e got your highbeams on or you havn't got your lights on, this reminds me of this show i watched where this car with this gangster inside tried to find someone to kill so he found someone to get them to flash their highbeams at him beacuse he had his lights turned off. the first person to do that he hunted them down and just as the man opened his window to look and see if he was still coming a gun poped out of a car right next to him and shot him point blanc in the head. Well this is kinda off topic sorry but i had to right that oh back to the real issue, you wont get a ticket. if so when in court tell the man to come in and show the whole video and show them the part where he rammed into the back of you a hey-ho-wadayaknow he will get charged with wreckless driving or assult with a deadly weapon or even attemped murder.ahhh nothing like pay back without getting your knuckles hurt. Well i'm glad that this is the longest answer i've typed i'm not even sure this is an answer to your question, meh, if it has answered your question i'm glad to be of service.

John S. above me is ABSOLUTELY CORRECT! In the State of California, the ticket must be addressed to the DRIVER, not the owner. The owner does not have to do anything. If your mom got the ticket, she can just ignore it. She doesn't have to "snitch" either. This law varies from State to State, but in California John S. got it right. Listen to John.

The only WAY you can get ticket it is from a School bus if they report it. But that is... if you broke the school procedure Law. But from a regular citizen? No!!! Some People today are just ridiculous, that person by acting that way, admit that they never did any mistakes in life.

    No worries.

Don't worry. You can't get a ticket from their video tape. The cops won't even look at it. This guy was just full of road rage and anger and the cops will see this.

He is being arrogant, and most probably won't report you. I haven't heard of anyone getting a ticket with their high beam on. Wait and see, you conscience is clear...

He shouldnt been video taping you while he was driving. I am sure there is a law agianst that. He did sound like a jerk. I wouldnt worry about it to be honest.
