Avi file that won't play in my media players?

I am trying to play a specific avi episode ( of prison break) and every time I try to play it on Windows media player it fails and a box pops up and says "Windows Media Player cannot play the file. The Player might not support the file type or might not support the codec that was used to compress the file." what can I do? I need to see this badly! It won't either play in my real player or other media players. However,it says that it DOES read the file type. What can I do?Do I need new codecs?

    Just download DivX www.divx.com

    Problem solved.

Its kinda like WMP doesnt have the right set of glasses to read the flie. Think of a codec as a pair of glasses. Your player needs the right codec to play the file.. WMP cant play AVI.. but Divx can.. as well as many others.

You can download the DivX codec from the website. Installing the DivX player (www.DivX.com) will also install the codec. And you may be able to just download the codec, which is all you need. Google "Divx codec".
