Why are christians so obsessed with homosexuality?

Seems to me that every other question asked by christians is obsessing in some way with what I do in bed, if they are so curious why don't they visit a gay bar and find out first hand.

I must admit I am also now finding it hard to find a different way of answering the same questions over and over on this subject

    It's not just homosexuality.

Many of them are obsessed with sexuality in general.

My personal view is that it's because sex is seen as dirty and sinful by many of them, and thus taboo.

And what do we obsess on? Taboo things.

I do find it amusing when they obsess over homosexuality, but yet dismiss the bits about slavery, perfect vision, blended fabrics and touching a woman who is on her period.

I believe that many Christians are obsessed with homosexuality, because it involves feelings that most have had at some stage of their development and it easily marks those who are "different". They don't cry about the other things because they have a distorted view of deviance, Crime in society, environmental destruction, corruption, and poverty lack the same sense of intimacy and innate and unchangeable nature. They seem harder to identify and when identified easier to isolate and punish. Christians can disregard their responsibility for the evil in the world and harp about the immorality of sexual orientation easily stereotyped and condemned.

It's human nature to be afraid of that which we are not familiar with. Instead of meeting gay people, and their partners, most Christians make their decisions based on the extreme pictures on TV and in the news. Now we all know the news people are very good at getting people to watch by putting on extreme pictures.

But likewise, most non-Christians make create their opinion of the extreme Christians like Haggard or Falwell, probably never having contact with a normal Christian.

But I assure you, that 99% of Christians, like 99% of homosexuals are not represented by what makes the news or images creating popular opinion. I bet you don't march naked in your local gay-day parade, if you even go. Most Christians I have met, are okay with homosexuality, are pro-choice, etc.

They just happen to spend their sundays with ministers that preach the opposite. Yeah, sounds like going to church in that forum doesn't make sense. But most people take the "grocery store" approach. Take what you need, leave the rest on the shelf.

I am a Christian. I am not obsessed with homosexuality. I don't think it will send you to ""the fiery pits of hell"" I don't think you need to answer someone..anyone that is being rude to you! You don't owe them anything! If they want to find out there is enough reading material out there. Just tell them that is none of their business, you don't ask about what they do in bed.

I respect the way your feeling. Its a pity these same christians don't come out into the real open and admit that some of them do have sexual encounters with other men....that is fact.

The very fact that you feel you have to justify yourself so much would certainly show you are defensive about your life style and maybe even feel deep down that it is not right. If you knew you were right in your practices then why bother answering other people who are offended by it or repulsed by it ?

Don't generalize. I am a Catholic and I don't agree with all the crap that is going on, it makes me sick to my stomach. But for me the "church" and the actually faith are separate to me. The church is a business, the faith is..."faith"...now to answer your question, I couldn't care less if someone is gay or not. If they are a kind human being that all that's important. So, if you want to sleep with a guy, that's your business.....enjoy, I don't care, I have bigger fish to fry.

I don't think all christians are obsessed with it.

The Westboro Baptist Church on the other hand seem to focus solely on homosexuality. That really makes me wonder about the Phelps.

Christians probably each have their own reasons for their ideas involving homosexuality.

But a better question might be, why are homosexuals so obsessed with homosexuality.

Most non-homosexuals don't spend a lot of time or thought on the issues of their sexual preferences from a generic perspective. Homosexuals, on the other hand, seem to think of nothing else.

Sexuality is a matter of confidence. If a person is sexually confident, they would have no reason to care about the sexuality of others.....

Gay bars to not represent the bulk of the gay community.Only the part that drinks....

    To some of the answerer's....

Gays do not put their sexuality in your face more then society puts heterosexuality in theirs.Consider how many times a day they witness heterosexual couples holding hands, or see ads on TV or in magazines that show happy straight couples, or see countless portrayals of happy heterosexual couples.Gays don't put their sexuality in your face nearly as much as you think they do or as much as society puts your sexuality in theirs..

Funny... my observation has been one of watching anti-Christians obsessing over homosexuality, constantly badgering Christians over it, accusing them of being against gays when all they do is point out what God has to say on the subject.

Isn't this a case of "killing the messenger?"

Oh wait.... that's what the evil people did to the prophets of old when they too pointed out the sins of the people.

    You are in "good" company.

    Edit:

In doing an advanced search over the last 7 days of the word "homosexuality" nine references came up. Six were posts by pro-gay people, and three were by people who were neutral on the subject. There were no "anti-gay" postings.
