First signs of labor?

What, for you, were the first signs that you were in labor?

This is my 3rd child, but it's been 12 years since I was last in labor, and I'm making myself paranoid over every little thing. LOL. I remember having very bad back labor and my quads and thighs ached. I'm just over 3 weeks away from my due date, but for the past couple days, every ache and twinge in my legs or back has got me wondering " Could this be it?" I know I'm just going to drive myself crazy with it. LOL

I know what all the books, doctors and websites say are the first signs of labor, but I'd like to hear some personal experiences. Anyone else in my boat where you feel you've forgotten what it's like?

TIA!!

I had 3 children back to back and yes I felt like I forgot or I wouldn't know...

My labors all started with cervical cramping... I guess that's what you would call it... it was just a pretty sharp pain in my cervix. Nothing more... even thru my entire labor, only cervical pain.

With my last one though it seemed to be worse... almost unbearable. But luckily it only lasted about 45 minutes.

sweetie honestly you will know when you are in labor. I was that way too. Every little pain i felt. I was hoping it was time. and I was doing this for months... you will just know.... it's instinct.

Even with my first child. I was 2 months early and I knew... I wasn't even anticipating it because I knew it was too early... but i felt that cervical pain and waited for about an hour... I knew I was in labor.

sure was... hour later... there was my first daughter.

    Hey Tia,

Sometimes when it's been a lot of years since your last pregnancy, your uterus acts like it's your first as far as labor. Other times, third labors are really fast. If you have a history of precipitous (fast) delivery, you'd want to pay attention to every sign: backache, even mild "cramps", leg pain, bloody show/discharge, etc. Your MD will probably check your cervix weekly at your appointments after 37 weeks if you have a history of fast delivery. Some do this routinely anyway. Otherwise, you could have 5 weeks until you deliver, don't make yourself crazy over it! If you notice the contractions, and they're uncomfortable, time them (from the start of one to the start of the next). If they're 5 minutes apart for 1 hour, call your Dr...things might be starting. Be sure to stay well hydrated and empty your bladder frequently. Sometimes if you have a run of contractions and do those 2 things, they will go away. (if it's true labor, emptying the bladder and drinking water won't stop it, don't worry!)

My labor with my 2nd child lasted 16 hours before it got past the "early labor" feeling. I had contractions every 7 minutes all day long and into the night. Then I could tell it was getting closer, and when I got to the hospital I was 7cm and my daughter was born in an hour.

Good luck! Pay attention to your body, and try to get lots of rest. Every pregnancy is different. You might not have back labor this time, and it feels very different.

When I had my daughter I woke up in the am and had blood mixed w/ discharge on tp and figured it would be a while before anything started so I just went on about my day like normal, but then a few hrs later I started to have the worst period like cramps and they became more consistent and more intense. My daughter was born at 4pm so for me it went pretty fast.Good Luck

I think you might be in early signs of labor because when I had my baby about a week ago it was almost 2 weeks early and I had the same pains as you in my back and legs. But I think you should see a doctor. Good Luck and congrats!
