  • I have a question about overtraining?

I always thought overtraining was a myth, until it happened to me. I see the contestants on The Biggest Loser working out 8 hours a day, and for the most part, they don't gain. I started working out again a while ago,and was doing heavy cardio on my elliptical, and gained 5lbs in a week! As soon as I stopped, I lost it. I'm now working out again, but with DVD's this time. My plan is to do 20-40mins of circuits with weights 6 times a week, two 30min walks ( 4mph,mostly for the fresh air), and 30 mins on the elliptical in the evening. Does this sound like too much? WIll it cause me to lose or gain? I don't know if it makes a difference, but I'm 39 and a stay-at-home-mom.And I've changed my eating habits.

  • What cheese should I eat while trying to diet?

I really like cheese, but was wondering what would be a good choice that wouldn't break the bank, and is reasonably easy to find.

  • My dog is shedding, what to do?

I have a lab that is shedding like crazy. I brushed enough hair off her yesterday to cover the Abominable Snowman. Apart from brushing her every day, what else can I do?

  • John Cena Cartoon Character Voice?

I was just looking up something on www.imdb.com, and it showed that John Cena does the voice of Dave the Barbarian for the Disney cartoon series of the same name. Or at least he did 11 episodes. Is this correct, or am I reading it wrong? Does anyone have any further info?

  • Beginning runner. How to start?

Hi! I took a stroller class yesterday and the instructor had us running the track. While I hurt like crazy today, it's that good kind of hurt. I only managed 1/2 mile non-stop, but would like to build up to at least 1 1/2 miles. What's the best way to go about this? How do I start? Any tips/suggestions would be helpful. I already walk about 2-3 miles a day and am in fair shape. THANKS!!

  • Table manners?

I was reading a question on another part of Y!A not too long ago, and the asker was questioning how many families sit at the table to eat dinner. Her point was that she prefered not to, while her husband did. One person answering the question stated that while her family sat at the table to eat, she didn't have any "silly rules like askiing to be excused" and then stated that she thought it was "lower middle class" to ask if one may be excused from the dinner table.

My question is, how is it lower middle class? I always assumed it was just good manners, wether you're lower class, middle class or upper class. Did I miss something with this response? This is something that been puzzeling me, and I'm having a difficult time wrapping my mind around that particular answer.

    Thanks!!

  • English to German translation help!?

Tonight is Halloween, and my friend and I are taking our kids Trik-Or-Treating in our village. Neither of us have very strong German skills, and I was wondering how you say " Trick-Or-Treat" in German.

Danke! ( Yep, I know at least that much. LOL )

  • No Sex Ed in schools???????

I am constantly amazed at the amount of girls that post on here asking if they could possibly be pregnant from just being near a guys penis. Are our schools not teaching Sex Ed anymore? Are parents not keeping up on what their kids are learning? It's just driving me crazy!! Does anyone else feel this way, or is it just me?

  • 38 weeks and discharge?

I'm just over 38 weeks and had my membranes swiped on wednesday. I was told that I'd be spotting, but I'm still having bloody discharge. It's not bright red, just brownish. I've already lost my plug, so I know that not it. I was dilated to 2cm. I don't remember this with my first two. I'm waiting for my doctors office to open so I can call, but I was just wondering if anyone else has had this.

    Thanks!

  • Baby trying to get out the hard way?

Does anyone else feel like their baby is trying to escape from their tummy the hard way? Kind of like what happened to John Hurt in the movie Alien? LOL. I'm 2 1/2 weeks away from my due date, and I constantly feel like the baby is pushing as hard as she possibly can against my stomach. I can't sit and relax as I'd like to as I have a dog that enjoys walks and i still have a house to keep up, meals to make and laundry ( I HATE THAT WORD) to do.

Does anyone else feel the same?

  • Old Wives Tales regarding labor?

I know that most of these don't work, but I'm just wondering what tales there are out there. I know the most popular ones:

    Have sex,

Drink raspberry leaf tea ( but I was told that can make you hemorrage, so I'd avoid that one like the plague)

    Lots of walking

Nipple stimulation ( but who's got 3 hours to rub their nipples? LOL )

    What others have you heard?

And before I get anyone worried, I'm not planning on doing any of these. I know the baby will come when she's good and ready. I'm just bored and trying to kill some time. :)

  • No baby shower. Looking for different ideas?

My friend is due in December and she's not having a baby shower. I've already got her gift, but what other fun thing can I do for her? We go out to lunch on a regular basis, so that's not really anything different.

What kind of thing would you like your friend to do for you?

  • First signs of labor?

What, for you, were the first signs that you were in labor?

This is my 3rd child, but it's been 12 years since I was last in labor, and I'm making myself paranoid over every little thing. LOL. I remember having very bad back labor and my quads and thighs ached. I'm just over 3 weeks away from my due date, but for the past couple days, every ache and twinge in my legs or back has got me wondering " Could this be it?" I know I'm just going to drive myself crazy with it. LOL

I know what all the books, doctors and websites say are the first signs of labor, but I'd like to hear some personal experiences. Anyone else in my boat where you feel you've forgotten what it's like?

    TIA!!

  • Baby pushing against back of ribcage?

I'm 36 weeks and going to see my midwife today, so I'll ask her about this, but i was wondering if anyone else had the feeling of their baby pushing at the back of their ribs? Is it even possible? My first two tended to stay under the front of my ribcage, but this one wants to spread out as much as she possibly can. LOL. So, is this feeling the baby, or just middle backache/strained muscles?

  • Morning sickness late in pregnancy?

I know that it's common to have morning sickness throughout the entire pregnancy, and to have it early, then stop and start again after a couple weeks, but how common is it to have morning sickness up until 16 weeks, then for it to stop, only to start again at 36 weeks?

I woke up this morning feeling sick like I did early in my pregnancy. I doubt that it was food poisoning or anything like that as I didn't eat anything different yesterday, nor had I eaten anything this morning. I have a doctors appointment on Thursday, but I was wondering how many others have had this happen. My first two pregnancys were, thankfully, morning sickness free.

    TIA!!

  • 35 weeks and done. Anyone else feel like this?

Hi! I'm 35 weeks today and just so done with being pregnant. Is anyone else feeling like this? I can't sleep, eat, walk, sit, stand, anything! I ache all over. Food doesn't even look appealing anymore. I know that I still have 5 more weeks of this, but it's driving me nuts!

I suppose that I do have to thank my lucky stars that I'm not an elephant with a gestition period of 16 or so months, right? LOL

  • Dog and stairs?

I have a 3yo lab that refuses to climb the stairs in my house. The house we were in before this was a 1 level bungalow, but this oone has a main floor, basement and 1 upper level where the bedrooms are.

It's not that she's afraid of stairs as she will climb the outside stairs, ones at friends houses, ones where she can't see where they lead, ones without backs.

So it's not really a stairs issue, just the ones at my house issue. LOL. How can I tempt her into going up and down them? I've tried coaxing her with treats, sitting and waiting for her to join me, using the leash. I've even had my husband carry her upstairs, then only to find out she won't go down and he's he's had to carry her again.

I'm not desperate to have her upstairs as it keeps the amount of hair I need to sweep only on one level, but I would like her to be able to come up with me when I go to bed.

TIA for all the HELPFUL suggestions. :)

  • Left-handed children?

I was just wondering about the odds of having a left-handed child. My hubby and I are both leftys. Our eldest son is right-handed, but our second child is a lefty. I know, with that it looks llike a 50-50 chance, right? We have one on the way though, and I was just wondering if it's genes, or just dumb luck.

I'm not worried about it. Just a random, pregnant woman thought. LOL
