I can see it as being an opiate of sorts.

Opiates tend to remove you some from your reality, which is why they are the first choice for acute pain control, and sport, at least the ones that are mass marketed and would rather have us as spectators, function much the same way.

The ancient Romans knew all about this “food and circuses” phenomenon.

They had feasts, weeks long, with gladiators and exotic animals.

We have Micky D's and the NFL. Unless of course it's baseball season.

Either way, we are distracted from paying attention to some things that others would have us not be too concerned about.

Every society has had rituals to keep the masses happy.

Ancient Rome had the 'Games' when Gladiatiors battled it out tothe death.

Modern(?) Spain still has Bullfighting and many local festivals where extreme cruelty is done to animals.

The world in general now has Soccer ("football") to fill up the thoughtless space between people's ears.

the two have reliable similarities! I basically think of that is in basic terms yet another form of fanaticism which satisfies the believer or spectator. no longer inevitably a crack-head. A crack head is greater of a helpless addict. Too a techniques long previous.. A activities fan or religionist are in basic terms people who've chosen to have faith a undeniable element or a undeniable way. If it r tranquilizes them, So enable or no longer that is!

I couldn't tell where some links could be but I do know the the word "fans"? It comes from the word "fanatical". It is apt, because the fanatical ways of the spectators is beyond belief. What they won't do for their own teams supports the fanatical in the fan.

I heard it was "religion", which I belive was a quote from Karl Marx, but I could be wrong. (for those of you who don't know, he was NOT one of the Marx brothers......lol!)
