Temporary Internet files?????????

Can someone clever please tell me what 'temporary internet files are' ? And why do they get 'saved' thereby clogging up your computer and you have to manually delete them. Is it important that they are saved and if not is there any way that you can stop them being saved. As you can tell don't know too much about computers.

They are saved to be used again without downloading them again from the source over the internet thus making it quicker to reload a page. They do take up disk space but unless you are tight on space its not normally a problem. You cant stop them from being saved but sometimes the browser uses an old saved or cached file instead of getting the new one and you get an "old" page. This also happens with some providers.

Temporary internet files are files that are stored on computer by webisites like pictures so it loads quicker next time. To delete them go on tools >internet options>Temporary Internet Files > and the delete them.

do you know anything about caches and cookies? i think they;re a part of your temporary internet files.

cookies are kept so you can re-visit websites (you've obviously visited before) quicker, and if you need to login, that's why sometimes even if you didn't click "remember me" your username remains till you next visit.

they;re kept as a record of what you've been visiting, i'm not sure why they do it but some parents are glad it exists as they can track what they're kids been up to without actually filtering sites. so in some temporary internet files, if you've been visiting porn sites, you can actually see the photos viewed...

anyway, i'm no expert in computers but i know about these cookies or w/e.. you can adjust your settings so your cookies is cleared once a day(/week/month...) ITHINK!!

or you could just go to START>search (or find) and type in temporary internet files and delete them manually once in a while..

    i hope this has helped : )

As the name implies, Temporary internet files are files needed temporarily by Windows, while on the internet.

There are several ways you can clean up (delete) your cookies, temp files and temporary internet files. I prefer to use Ccleaner (available at www.filehippo.com) to do this, rather than the built-in DISK CLEANUP. If you want to use Disk Cleanup, you can find it if you:

    - Double-Click on My Computer to open it up

    - RIGHT-click on your C: drive

    - Choose PROPERTIES and then click on the DISK CLEANUP button

    - When done, reboot your computer.

Delete these files daily or run Ccleaner every day right before you shut your computer down.

Go control panel > internet options > under temporary internet files click delete files. It will clear all. You can also clear the cookies too.

the temporary internet files are where information about websites you've visited is stored so when you revisit the site it loads quicker. they don't really use up too much space, but they aren't needed. i clear mine at least twice a week. i'm not sure if you can stop them from being saved, i'll look into that & if it is possible i'll let you know. :)

    Hi,

please just do this go to your systems tools folder and run "Disk Cleanup" which will delete all your temp files for you then just Defrag your Hard drive to get your free space back again, you should do this about every two weeks. hope this helps you and i am not clever but just trying to help you.

they are on your computer to help your internet experience run smoother/faster...even though you dont want some of them on your computer..but they are their because of activeX..flashplayer..or even when you download a program (there needs to be a place for that program to go before you can open it)...yes you can turn ur browser settings around to help eliminate most of them..though you are always going to have some even if it is minimal...and you will find that your internet experience will be rather poor...and it is just too easy to clean them...you just open your internet explorer and go to "tools" tab...if you are using the newest version of internet explorer in the top right hand corner..if you are using the old one i think it is in the top left hand corner...anyways after pressing the tools tab..go to internet options...then in the new window that opens you will an area "browsing history"..under that heading just press delete and follow any on screen instructions you get...this combined with "disk cleanup"...to get to disk cleanup go to "start menu" then "all programs" then "accessories" then "system tools" and just click on "disk cleanup"...just do those things periodically...you should be doing those anyways espeacially if you are doing net banking or using ur credit card online and so on...because you can get programs installed on ur computer without you knowing (they come through as temp net files or cookies) that collects this info and sends it away to somone (also called spyware)..this is why you should be using "adaware" and "spybot"...if you dont have these programs...just go to www.download.com and enter those program names in the search bar on that site and download them..they are free to download and free to use and they work great...just think of using the net as anything else...if you dont do proper maintance or cleaning...later on you are going to have problems
