When ever I drive my 97 Chevy Cavalier I always smell gas when I park in the garage.?

It does not seem to be leaking gas, but it is causing the garage to smell like gas all the time. I don't know how long this has been happening because I've only recently started parking in the garage, and never noticed the smell before. Any ideas or suggestions of what it might be or what I should do.

Update:

There are no gas tanks or cans in the garage.

just cause you dont see a puddle of gas doesnt mean its not leaking, it could be a slow drip and evaporates before you see it. pop the hood and turn the car on and when the gas lines pressurise you should see it start to leak.

just look around for a drip with the car on.

What Year is the car? has it been sitting for some time? Could be running to rich, Fuel/Air mixture wrong. Small Fuel Leak near the top of the engine that never gets to the floor? If it seem to be Fuel Leak fix it ASAP before you have an engine fire!

gas vapors have as a lot punch as a case of dynamite, rather in an enclosed section like a storage. if those fumes discover ignition, u would discover products of the automobile contained in the subsequent zip code, and products of storage contained in the subsequent county. i strongly propose u save the automobile outdoors if u dont opt for the storage to instruct into an section station. maximum autos now are gas injected. least confusing thanks to envision is to in basic terms turn the major on. the gas pump will start up, and pressurize the lines. look alongside the passenger aspect close to to the body edge. many times the gas lines will be contained in the region. also go searching contained in the engine bay. if there's a gas line leak contained in the bay, opportunities are extreme, u'll quickly discover it in a hurry. the gas pump will be putting the lines less than alot of pressure. even a itty bitty pinhole will look a gusher; that is going to be less than a minimum of 40 psi or more suitable ideal. some injectors will require more suitable pressure to operate to specs. compared to the former days, u cant in basic terms 'splice restoration' gas lines. they are less than alot of pressure, and at the same time as a million section begins to fail, the finished lines should be considered 'rotted'. the pump will also placed sufficient pressure on the lines to in truth blow ur 'patch' aside once u turn the major on. toda's autos has the pump contained in the gas tank as a replace of it being by technique of the engine of 'the day earlier to this's' autos. gas will already be less than alot of pressure by technique of the time it receives to the injectors. this is a quite large interest, and gas lines isnt precisely inexpensive both. will take about an afternoon or 2 contained in the save. u'll be lookin at about 3 franklins searching on keep a minimum of.

Your car is ten years old, and that means your steel gas lines are rusting. There may be gas leaching from a rusted out pin hole in the gas line running along the frame rails from the tank to the engine. You really need to have it put up on a lift and checked for a wet gas spot along the line somewhere.

take it to a mechanic and have the fuel system checked out before it burns your garage down.
