christians, how do U feel about the majoriT of republicans opposing abortion but supporting the death penalty?
I ran out of characters so had to shorten it a bit. but anyway, how do you feel about it considering how many republicans are christians. and Im asking because most of you defined murder as intentional killing, so wouldnt that apply to the death penalty as well? so wouldnt it be hypocritical to support the death penalty but oppose abortion?
I just want to know if you guys agree with the republicans or if you see the hypocrisy as well.
I want to know if you agree with what Im saying or if its only the republican christians that support the death penalty but oppose abortion. you know, so people arent like "all christians do this, when it could pretty much only be the republicans"
point blank, I just want to see what portion of christians support that, and what portion see the hypocrisy. I want to see if its a lot or only the ones in politics.
once again, I thought intentional killing was a sin? so then Murder isnt just intentional killing right? theres also the motive for it involved that determines what is murder and what isnt?
okay not all republicans are christian, but most, you know what I mean.

A baby is innocent. Someone in the electric chair has murdered, raped, etc. The death penalty is exactly that--a PENALTY/punishment. Abortion takes an innocent life for another's convenience.

I think the death penalty is good in some cases for known murderers who have killed on multiple occasions- of course their guilt having been proven beyond a shadow of a doubt. (Certainly no one that is in jail for one murder only or cases where they cannot verify that someone has actually commited such crimes).
The way I see it, when such a person is put to death it ensures that no more innocent people will die at that person's hand. The question always remains, "What if such a murderer escaped from prison?". In my view, someone who kills that often will probably kill again. So if they were to escape from a prison, who would be the next victim?
I don't see any hypocrisy in this since I think it would actually save innocent people from violent deaths.
EDIT: Ok, so I was really on a tangent. It doesn't bother me that Republicans support the death penalty for the most part. Then again, I don't bother too much with court cases in general so I don't know the specifics of each death penalty case. So I might be overlooking something.
2nd edit: To clarify for kerrisonr. When I say someone is "innocent" what I mean (in this case) is "someone who has not murdered another human being". And yes, as a Christian I do believe that babies and little children are innocent and free of sin.

The death penalty is a judgment for crime. Abortion is killing for convenience. There is a BIG difference. I agree with the republicans, although I only support the death penalty when there is a no doubt that the person committed the crime. Too many innocent men have ended up on death row.
The Bible teaches that God gave authority to men to carry out punishments, which included taking the life of another who committed a serious crime, like murder or kidnapping. People have to pay for the crimes they commit, and even God set laws down to deal with that. Why not support it?
Abortion though, is totally for mom's convenience. It's not pro-choice for the baby. And that's murder.

As many of the answers show, support for the death penalty is not an automatic thing with Republicans. It doesn't make sense to think about the death penalty as a partisan thing.
You don't have to condone brutal crimes or want the criminals who commit them to avoid a harsh punishment to ask whether the death penalty prevents or even reduces crime and whether it risks killing innocent people.
To correct some misstatements:
Note to cadisney: Most criminals do not think about the consequences, if they think at all.
Note to Atticus Finch: The late Pope said that in societies that have other ways to protect themselfves, the death penalty is wrong. He concluded that the death penalty is wrong in societies such as the United States. 48 states have life without parole on the books. It means what it says and costs much less than the death penalty.

Any man or woman can be hypocritical that is their prerogative. We are pro-choice. Just because you say Christians as a whole does not include all. The world has laws that warn if you kill someone you pay do penalty for your crime be it time in prison or death penalty. Republicans you say. I think not when the money is in the democratic party which many are sure they want many people of non-white descent punished for these crimes. The KKK was of the democratic party. They killed many black and white people for the civil rights movement. But they try hard to make others think it is the republican party that wants to demolish people of color.Yet the prisons are majority non-white. Of course they would appose abortion that could lead to a genocide of a race of people. It is said that more minorities have unwanted pregancies than whites. So let them think it is a matter of choice. Murder is intentional killing unless you got more money and can buy your way out. Does it matter then.
Source(s): We have the United States and we have laws with the same goverment and bill of rights. you have some states with legal rights to gamble and Cat houses in Nevada and some places legal. Taxes our paid by these people from money at the consumers expense to pay for the love of sex and gambling. Yet the world concentrates on a Christian and their point of view. Second guessing as it scheems. Why are these things allowed . Simply because there are people in this world that are heavy with money and can buy government and get laws passed in order to have legal crimes done in their areas. You do not see the minority getting anything like that in other states . But their is people arrested for this same crime because it is not allowed in their state. How can this be? We are all Americas and we practice acts in different state legal in one and illegall in another. and you only complain about abortion and the death penalty. What is up? The rich get richer and the poor get poor. That is the way of the republican compared to the democratic party. Democrates are rich and they have always won in the end. Do you see many black people in these cities. I think not they dropped a bomb, crack in the pack. And we swallowed it whole. So block this if you must it is true. Gas prices up and everything else. Where is the drug money recovered by crimes. We never see it returned to our communities. Ask the government about that. There are more whites still on death row for years than black. No one can say it is not so. God sees when men and women do not. Stop it with the smoke screen. So you ran out of characters to shorten it a bit. Well let me tell you. There is more about America than meets your eye. www.wallbuilders.com! Who cares about this, there are people getting killed every day because of the history of non-white being exposed. Christians have been known as republicans. Some think that the civil rights movement started with Martin Luther King, but it did not,it started right after slavery ended. At that time most republicans were black and there were also whites there. Democrates or anti-social. It is all about them and their money. Ask the KKK. They were intentional killers and the world did nothing to stop them. Racism is alive and well in America. - ?Lv 71 decade ago
No it is not hypocritical.
Pregnancy is a matter of biology and since it is about life if a mother cannot provide for the child she should give it to parents who cannot have a child. It's just that simple and we have the technology in place to preserve life.
Murderers however have taken a life. It doesn't matter what environment they grew or lived in. In the end most just chose at the wrong time to commit the most despicable act. Few have even repeated doing that with no fear of the consequences and no remorse for doing so. Those are the ones that qualify for the death penalty.
I am biased towards the Republican agenda for I am conservative in most of my views. But these two issues are an American issue and should be discussed as such and not politicized which you have fallen into the trap of doing here.

I am a Christian and not a republican. I do not support the death penalty. I know many Christians do and I don't condemn them for that. I just disagree. I believe Jesus was executed once and for all to cover all sins and therefor we should not execute anyone anymore. As long as they are locked up and society is safe from them, we don't need to kill them.
The abortion issue is a difficult one to solve because it is hard to know when life really begins. If Row vs. Wade was overturned, we would have a terrible situation with too many unwanted children.
As far as hypocrisy goes, I know many people will think it is hypocritical to appose the death penalty, but favor abortion. That is just the way they will see it.

I am a Christian, a Republican, and I oppose the death penalty.
not because I believe that a murderer should not die, but because the death penalty is not applied evenly in our society, it is not a deterrent, and it costs less to lock up a person for life than it costs to put them through the legal system and execute them.
Folks who lack money, folks whose skin is not white (like mine) and folks who are not smart enough to really stick up for themselves are more likely to get the death penalty. Dozens of death penalty cases have been overturned in the last 15 years on DNA evidence---how many more people were executed wrongly before DNA evidence was available?
I am a Republican who is disappointed in our President. I oppose the death penalty in most cases---when the evidence is overwhelming and guilt is proven beyond the shadow of a doubt, in an ideal world, the criminal should die. but our world is not perfect. life in prison without parole is the best alternative. and, possibly, a greater punishment---and it does allow a criminal to repent and become a better person.

I am sorry to say That not all Republicans are Christians because if they all were then there probably wouldn't be any support of the Death Penalty!! I Believe That Murdering someone for Murder someone is Sin and the Bible tells us that we are not to live as eye for eye and tooth for tooth but rather forgive and love them with the appropriate discipline to help change their lives so that they will not not make the same mistake!!

Let's be clear for some of the other answer-ers here.
1) In the Christian faith, NONE of us are without sin. So saying that a baby is "innocent" - this is not true by your religious tennants. A baby is just as sinful as the person who has been convicted of a crime. The difference is that the baby (or fetal cells for those semantic-interpretists lol) has yet to ACT on the sin.
But, again, according to the Christian faith, possession of sin is just as bad as acting on the sin. So the murderer is held to the same standards as those people who THINK about murder but don't actually commit the crime.
2) MANY people are executed each year who did not commit the crimes they are accused of. False accusations and false judgments/convictions are completely normal. The justice system does the best with the information they're given but they are NOT fool-proof and there's nothing that says that those people being executed are not innocent.
For my fellow answerers- please clarify in your statements. How is the person preforming the lethal injection or electrocution (etc) NOT a murder him/herself?? How is this person not committing a sinful crime? And how does this person then escape the regulations of death?
To me, it doesn't balance out. And I'm hoping you can explain it.

Intentional killing of an innocent person is murder. Are you not trying to intentionally kill someone that is trying to kill you in self defense?
When someone commits a murder they do it with full knowledge that the consequence of that action might be to forfeit their own life. They are choosing the death penalty for themselves by choosing to kill a person. That murderer has decided that taking someones life is worth giving up their own life. Noone gives the death penalty to another person. That person has chosen it for themself
In an abortion the baby had no choice. Nothing they did led to their murder. They are completely innocent of any wrongdoing. Their death was not a consequence of their own actions but that of their mothers.

you are clearly ignorant of the Roe v Wade decision. If Roe v Wade was overturned it would turn the issue back to the states. Most states would keep it legal. Some would make it illegal but then those that still wanted abortions could just travel to another state. I would personally like to see abortion outlawed except for the case of a mothers life in danger, but overturning Roe v Wade would be a start.
Roe v Wade overturned would not make abortion illegal in the US. Do your homework before you bash on people with incorrect facts.
