Well the idea of scanning them is a good idea. Not sure if your scanner is up to the job tho. You might check with Lexmark and see if you model can be used for such.
Other than that you might check with a good photo processor and see if they offer a scanning service.
I think it is wonderful that you have your Dad's photos and you are going ot archive them .....

You can get a decent flatbed scanner w/ the film and slide scanner equipment included for very little. I got mine for around $150 - it works great and gives really good quality. Be sure to keep your surface area clean (lint free) and you can easily do it yourself. Scan at a high resolution for best results when reproducing.

We have a slide scanner at work. You just load the slides into it I think 4 or 5 at a time and it scans them in. Its a great wee machine. Expensive tho.

Quick & easy method is to take them to a photo store, like Jessops, where they can either print them out, or transfer them to a CD. If you have loads of them, it might be worth investing in a scanner which will take slides and negatives. You'll get a cheap one which will do the job for maybe £70-80 if you shop around. That will allow you to transfer them to your PC, from where you can print them out, or make a CD yourself.

If they were not made within the last two or three years, you need to have them cleaned to remove dust and mold. Then you can scan them in if you have a scanner or have someone do it.

you can use a normal projector
you just need to get 2 mirrors of the same size
about twice the size of a projector thingy
put then in a 90° corner and glew them toghether
like this
http://www.bhphotovideo.com/images/items/418088.jp...
(just a random picture to show the shape)
now you put this on your scanner
with the corner up
the mirrors down
the you put your projector thing under 1 of the mirros
and you scan it
if it doesn't work
you could try putting a lamp above the dia and scanning then
but idk if that will work
or you can of course get a dia scanner
the one my grandpa got to scan his projectors things
did cost around 400€ ~ 500$

If it is already registered you shouldnt have to do it again, however, if it is an Antivirus software that you PAY for, then make sure that your license insnt just made for 1 computer, becuase if it is, and you are running it on more than one, then they may disable the full acount. Hope this helps. David.
