first i really would recomend a good guide book and some reading before you go. take taxis arrange with a local taxi driver to take you where you want to go. always sort out the price before you go in Egyptian pounds for the trip. you may want the driver to return for you or take a new taxi each trip. but this is much cheaper than taking tours with the tour company. Usually the drivers are very helpful and can tell show you where you buy the tickets. the exception to this is the museum where he will have to drop you off a little way away as the road is closed to vehicles. but he will point out where to go and it is only a few yards. Go to the Egyptian museum, that's where all the Tutankhamen's tomb goods are and it is a wonderful place, but you will need to take water. there is a small snack bar to the left of the museum entrance but its pretty basic. you can easily spend a day there, but it is exhausting and it will depend on your enthusiasm for the ancient history. Tutankhamen's things are upstairs and lunch time is usually the quietest time to see them. dont miss the jewelery room where the mask is, it is at the back of the museum, upstairs and the rooms to the left and right of this room are also full of interesting things too.the other objects are in the long corridor on the left side of the museum. and across the end of the museum. Also upstairs are the mumy rooms (extra cost)

down stairs there are many fabulous staues and things to see. for me the rooms and corridor on the right downstairs have some fabulous things to see. in the evening i would go to Khan el khalili the medieval shopping area its great fun. on the other days, the pyramids and sphinx of course and enjoy a really good work around the site.

on your third day i would reccomend the sites at saqarra and memphis (its about an hours dirive) the step pyramid the oldest pyramid in eygpt. and many other things such as tombs and other pyramids and what is left of the temple.

there are many other places to see around Cairo but i am not familiar with them.

just three days! you might be a little overwhelmed. i spent last summer in cairo and although im from a big city it took me a few days to get used to the crazy traffic there. but anyway, in terms of cairo i would say dont miss the bargaining possibilities at Khan al Khalili (if that isn't what you meant by market). if you are really into ancient Egypt then I would def check out the Egyptian Museum. Lastly, Al-Azhar and Al-Houssein mosques (right near Khan al Khalili) are worth seeing.
