Why do we have Turkey as a long term strategic ally?
The Armenian genocide is thought to be the second most studied and documented example of genocide. I understand that we need to make temporary alliances with less savory nations to assist us in reaching our long term strategic goals (example: Pakistan). But Turkey is part of NATO. I always considered NATO a organization of countries with shared core beliefs. I do not "blame" the present government in Turkey for the atrocities committed in waning days of the Ottoman Empire, but they need to acknowledge it and try to understand why it happened so as to prevent it from happening gain. If they cannot acknowledge it, we should terminate our alliance with them.

We originally needed Turkey during the cold war since they were right on the border with the Soviet Union. Today we don't need them anymore, especially after they occupied North Cyprus and now controlled by Islamic extremists.

Well, even the dems are backing out of it now. The timing is not good. May be some time in the future. Perhaps the dems can concentrate more on the genocide occuring today in the Sudan.

Think about it logically... why now? Why not 10 years ago, why not 20? Why would congress (whom you would think has better things to do) make it a point now of all times, when Turkey (for whatever reason) is aiding us and our troops in Iraq? Could it be that congress is trying to undermine Bush? It seems transparent to me. Try reading between the lines next time.

Just like the Talibans where your allies
I do not say it´s your fault.. it´s just not the same Turkey with 30 million of people, largely liberal and secular you passed an alliance with decades ago.

Good grief you lefties are REALLY trying to wiggle out of this one. Making it seem like it's about genocide.
You are traitors for bringing this up now and actively harming our troops.
