Differences between bosal/mechanical hackmore/jumping hackmore?

What have you used, what do you prefer to use, and why? Just being curious.

I've used only bridles with bits or halter/lead rope. I definately prefer the last.

Bosals- adjusted to fit the horse to promote flexion and supplication based on touching nerve bundles.

Mech. Hacks- pressure is based on a nutcracker effect, so your whoa cue and backing cue, really are the same one. Its not something I recommend or would use personally.

Jumping hack, is the english version of a western sidepull. Its based more on plow reining than using neck reining. Is used similar to a halter.

My perference is a bit sorry. I love bringing a mule up into a curb through the ranks and proper training and having the lightest touch bring the needed command.

I like to start my horses in a Bosal. Use it for a good 3yrs. Then I go to the Vosal. Which I posted the pic in your other question. I don't care for the mechanical hackamore. I don't care for the idea of squeezing the nose. That is why I use the Vosal. Which works off of the chin bone. I love them!! I do have a few horses that did prefer the Bosal over the Vosal, but not many. I own 25 Morgans & 10 Mustangs. So 3 out of them liked the Bosal better. So I ride them in the Bosal instead. Then as I said in your other question, the loping hackamore, it good. It is soft around the nose. I think you might like that, similar to the halter. Hope this helps!

I would never allow a student to ride with a mechanical hackamore. I've seen serious injuries to a horse with these things, I buy all I can see at yard sales and throw them out immediately. My personal vice! A mechanical hackamore can squeeze with such intensity that I have seen it break bones in the jaw when used incorrectly and with novice hands.

Bosals are, in my opinion, for highly trained horses that are very responsive to their rider. They are wonderful, and any horse that can ride and ride well in one, the rider is to be commended.
