The question of whether is "should" be banned or illegal is more a matter of opinion than hard fact / data, other than to say that the fear by the "higher-ups" is that marijuana can be abused, and so they want to prevent that by making it illegal. As an alcohol and drug counselor for 20+ years, among other roles in the mental health profession during that time period, now retired, I can tell you, however, that the "fear" is very poorly founded since we have alcohol ripping peoples' lives apart, and have had that for centuries, and the "powers-that-be" are afraid to lose their economic "stranglehold" on that aspect of our entertainment life, becoming intoxicated in one fashion or another. Those "powers-that-be" have a LOT of money tied up in their "drug-of-choice", and legalizing marijuana would challenge their financial base and income. It's politics and economics more than medicine or chemical issues. God Bless you.

having previously worked with patients who used medical marijuana i got to laugh at these people saying there are pain meds available...medical marijuana is not just for pain it has been shown to help with glaucoma, nausea and helps cancer patients not only with pain but having an appetite as chemo is famous for making you not hungry or too sick to eat.. i was given both nausea medication and pain meds when i went through my chemo and they did not help at all and nothing made me hungry
there is a pill form of THC that is given to the elderly that have no appetite and have suffered dangerous weight loss to make them hungry whether or not this helps with pain i don't know i never thought to ask them but it did make them eat and get back up to a healthy weight
i have to agree with the above that the governments stand point is all about money not what is best for the patient
and to the people saying they would sell it or abuse it do you know how many people receiving pain pills through pain management sold their pills..i know in the town i used to work in it would be a lot easier to find someone selling their pain pills then marijuana as the pills bring in a lot more money

I'm for anything that gets this country closer to legalizing it entirely. so if we have to make an excuse that it has medical benefits then that's fine with me.

It shouldn't be. I can't think of any good reasons that aren't total crap.
But if you are determined, go to the DEA website. That has lots of ridiculous funny things.

Because people are taking advantage over their priviledge of smoking it, maybe for selling it or whatever....they make pain meds for pain so why should people get to smoke illegal drugs just to make them feel better.

Yes. There are countless drugs that can do the job of easing one's pain - marijuana isn't necessary. Legalization through the "need" for medical use is BS.
