I have low water pressure in my house. I am on a well system with pressure tank. Pressure tank reads 20psi.?

Pressure has been very low. Happened in the last few days. Not sure if pressure tank is bladderless or not. I am wondering if it could be the well pump? PLease only those with experience answer this question thanks.

Update:

How do I trip the pressure switch. I have a Submerible motor control box but since I came from city water..i have no idea how to do this

20 PSI is rather low pressure, most stock pressure switches would be bringing pump on by now. I would do as other answer suggests and trip switch to make pump run to see if its working. If pump comes on and pressure returns change or adjust the pressure switch.

If switch points are closed check for power and if pump seems to be running look for leaks.

With pump running you should have good water flow. If its running and there is some water coming but little pressure then it may be the pump.

I have seen the foot valve not open properly and cause this type of problem on a shallow well jet type pump.

Hope this helps a little, at least gives you something to check :)

I would be careful with that. The expansion tank alone is meant to maintain the water pressure that is coming in to it. It's not meant to increase the pressure. It's just a vessel that will help keep adequate water pressure when you run the water or when you run more than one faucet. There is usually about 15 PSI of air in the bladder. Increasing that might barely give you more water pressure, but you run the risk of busting the bladder. Do not put more pressure in it than it says on the label. Usually an in house expansion tank works when you have a well and a pump system, but not always.

Usually, the pressure tank holds the pressure with a bladder. (At least mine does). I fortunately have a air tank so I can add pressure to mine if necessary. That's usually the first step in the trouble-shoot is to check and see if the tank is holding the pressure. Bladderless would mean the tank is ruptured, if that's the problem.

Second, would be the trip on the pump that's set to kick in at a certain pressure. If it's not set at the correct pressure, your pump might be kicking out once it reaches 20 psi. I'd check that setting too.

    good luck

Since the system was fine before, my first thought is not likely. (Pressure regulator) You most likely have a blockage at the intake (Suction) line. There's also the possibility that your expansion tank has developed a hole in the bladder, or there's a pinched or crushed line somewhere, or that your pump is getting weak and getting ready to fail. (Pump is last suspect. They usualy give no notice, just die.)

we have the same water system and i too experience same thing. you need to clean your tank i mean inside of the tank by draining and loading it three times depending on the location of your deepwell and how many pipes were down under your pump. you need to do it repeatedly bc not all pebbles flush with the water in single draining. it's for thorough cleaning. this should be done at least once a year. it's no different from defrosting your freezer once in while for maximum performance. when i had it done, stone deposits flowed out of my tank. also have your pipe down the pump checked, a bigger stone might be blocking it preventing water to pass through. of course this should be done by pro drillers. after trying the first one and your satisfied with the flow of water in your faucet, then theres no need to do the second one.

if you cant do it alone, seek the help of a pro.
