How to host a fund raiser for my 12 month old with ALL?
Last month, my 12 month old was diagnosed with B-Cell acute lymphoblastic leukemia. We're still in the hospital but traveling costs, lost time at work, and co-payments are catching up quickly. My friend offered to do some type of fund raiser but doesn't know what to do. Any ideas on what would raise a bit of money in this situation? Thank you in advance. (By the way, he's doing great. His counts are up, he is responding well to chemo, other than some nasty diarrhea no sickness, and his cancer cells are not coming back so far.)

I don't know how to raise money, but I hope your baby is going to be ok.... I sincerely mean that. No parent should have to go thru that with a child...

My brother had testicular cancer a few years ago and since has become very involved in the Lance Armstrong Foundation. Last year he held his first benefit and this year the second. He donates that money to LAF; but same idea. He raised $30,000 last year and $35,000 this year; making him one of the top fundraisers for LAF.
The key to a benefit is being gutsy enough to ask people for free services, etc. Most businesses are more than willing to donate at least a gift certificate.
My brother is a contractor and recently did work on this very upscale place on the beach, which would usually cost a fortune, but they I believe do it for cost. I think the band volunteers.
They have tons and tons of donations and have a silent auction for those items, with a starting bid. They also have larger items like a new roof, vacations, baseball clinic with Derek Jeter etc. Those items are auctioned off in a live auction which gets really exciting.
They charge $125 per ticket which is pricey but includes dinner and an open bar, plus is all goes to charity.
Most other benefits I go to are much simpler. They are usually a Sunday afternoon at a bar and its $20 a ticket which includes a decent buffett and 2 drinks. They then have a chinese auction. They are also very successful.
If you have any other questions please feel free to email me.
Good Luck! I am glad to hear your son is doing well; I can't imagine how scary it must be.

Host a benefit dinner. Have a spaghetti dinner, or chicken n biscuits, or something simple. That's probably the easiest way to raise money and people get a meal for their donation. A lot of times, you can get local stores to donate the food and someone to donate a hall to have it in so there is no extra cost.

first i wish you all the luck in the world and our prayers are with you.....for a friend that died 7 years ago we raise money for scholarships in her name.....we rent a hall (for 6 years now) and we all make TONS of food and host an all you can eat buffet and free beer i cant even tell you how much money we raise...we sell tickets for $12 per person....also every Sept we host a golf tournament....but i think the buffet is alot easier everyone cooks, local pizza place donates pizza, other locals donate food and we have a large outcome

Some friends of mine just had a fundraiser type event with Chik Fil A. I think half of the proceeds from food sales went directly to them on behalf of their daughter with cerebral palsy.

Someone I know also had a child with leukemia......and their friends got together and had a gigantic yard sale.
Their church let them use their hall....and all proceeds went to the child's family. They also got a store to donate a flat-screen TV which they raffled off.
Total they raised about 3 thousand dollars......and their son is fine now.
Good luck to you.

I have done alot of fundraisers in my community. First, set a date, make a flyer. do an auction. go to area businesses with a flyer in hand that they may keep-and they will prob. hang it for you for free advertising. ask for a donation for the event. Let them know that you will set out their business cards, flyer, sign, etc. for them the day of the event. alot of places will donate the building for such events so you dont have to rent someplace. serve food-hotdogs, hamburgers, or sloppy joes (keep it cheap) chips, cole slaw etc. charge for the food-there is alot i can tell you, if you would like some help, please email me and i would love to help. God bless, amanda
