Why is Al-Qaida hitting the Phillippines?

There is a smaller faction within the Al-Qaida known as the Abu Sayef. They claim that they fight for independence of a muslim state in the southern Philippines. They want recognition. Philippines is majority Catholic.

Convenience.

Al Qaeda isn't as sophisticated and organized as we've been led to believe. If they were behind 9/11, it was the pinnacle of their terror campaign. A brilliant (but evil and heainous) plan that was well-executed.

Most of their stuff are things that they can do easily - bombing embassies, night clubs, and malls in their "backyard."

Had we not invaded Afghanistan, they probably would have been able to develop something more sophisticated, but such attacks are less likely when they're running from cave to cave.

I am a Filipino and they have connections here like the terrorist group, Abu Sayaff which is like their partner in spreading terrorism in the world. and US and the Philippines were closely knitted in foreign relations. they were like sister nations. The Philippines need the US's help in economic prosperity while the US needs the Philippines for further resources like manpower and investments. So, both countries have their own respective nemeses like Al Qaeda for US and Abu Sayyaf for the Philippines. I dunno what these terrorists' motives for the bombing but it just shows that these militants just wanna overthrow the government.
