Why do Ex-JWs and those who have JW family post in this forum?
Do you post just to harass and annoy JWs who read these boards, or to bring sincere enlightenment on an issue about which you're passionate to anyone who cares to read your story?
I, for one, post here because this is a place for people to discuss religious issues that matter to them, this topic being important to me. Issues of Ex-JWs -are- religious issues, despite what anyone believes. Also, I believe it's important as a Christian to expose the underbelly of a religion of which I have first hand knowledge. This is a forum in which to do so.
I truly don't see the issue, as annoyed as anyone may get reading something that doesn't sit well with them. As annoyed as I get reading some of the other topics in here, I defend their right to post whatever's important to them.
Your thoughts, dear readers?
tehabwa, wow, I truly support your right to your opinion.
Of course I have a "thing" about JWs, duh. You couldn't resist pointing out your religious views or lack of them, I see. This is a place to ask questions about matters which are important to you, and if questions help others get answers they wouldn't get elsewhere, then that's just another perk of the question and answers system.
Thanks for answering, although the question wasn't directed to you.
remember folks, the front page of your profile says the purpose of YAhoo Answers is to:
Share knowledge
Help others

I think everyone has a right to post any question that is considered appropriate by the community. I have had close contacts with JWs and at one time about 22 years ago I considered myself as one of them until I read certain articles from the Watch Tower Bible and Tracts Society that contain certain interpretation that were not in agreement with the 'spirit' of the Bible. We should correct certain errors if we can [although it is almost impossible for the JWs to accept any truth except it is published in Awake or Watchtower] but we should do so with love and humility.

Uh, this isn't a forum, but a question and answer site. Anyone who abides by the Guidelines can post.
This isn't a discussion site; if you want one of those, there are gabilllions on the web. This is for questions and answers.
Read the Guidelines; if you agree to abide by them, fine; report those who violate them. If you don't go elsewhere.
You come here to ask and answer questions about issues that matter to you; that's why other people come here. As long as they abide by the Guidelines, they have that right.
If you can't handle that, go elsewhere.
No, this isn't a place to expose underbellies; it's a question and answer site; if you have something to say, create a blog, or find a discussion forum. This ain't either.
So, you defend the right of SOME people to post, but not others?
How do you make the distinction? It seems you have a particular thing about JWs.
That's NOT a category in the Guidelines. If there are views you don't want to see, don't come to a site where those views are among the many allowed.
(I'm an atheist, and have been told I shouldn't post here either; to all, I say, if I abide by the Guidelines WE EACH AGREED TO when we signed up, we have the right to be here; if not, go elsewhere.)

I mention it if it is relevant to the conversation. I usually get a positive reaction and congratulations for having left that cult. I haven't had a negative reaction yet. Most memorable was when I was talking to a couple of baptist ministers who, ironically, were going door-to-door. When I told them I was an ex-JW, their eyes lit up and they told me about the JWs who live down the street from me who they couldn't "do anything with", and what a witness for Jesus I could be to them since I would know how to talk to them. They tried so hard to recruit me into their church because of that. They visited me two more times asking me to join their church. I gave them my number and told them I'd think about it. I don't believe the same as baptists, but an opportunity to help other JWs get out would be sweet!

The JWs are not perfect, but I have yet to know of a religion that is even close in following the bible. Those in so called Christian religions, need to examine the origins of their new religions, or are you as one person put it, "free range Christians?"
The way I was taught was that it was okay to complain about something but then you need another solution, constructive criticism so to speak. Calling the WTBS a false prophet is erroneous, more in truth is that they were over zealous and mistaken with some of their dates. I have yet to research that information so am not really sure of what the details are. I know I was around in 1975, and all that was said was that it was 6000 years etc., the people themselves got all hyped up. It made sense because you had to allow for the 1000 year reign, blah blah blah. I personally did not think it would come, but had a friend that went in debt thinking they would not have to pay it. Of course they had to file bankruptcy.
It's like the boy who cried "wolf" so many times that no one paid any attention anymore, but eventually that wolf did come and eat the boy, so it will be with Armegeddon.
To answer the question, I think the ex witnesses that post here were never that strong in the truth. I don't see how they could speak bad about it if they had been.

Honestly, I imagine some are trying to be helpful, sadly the majority come across as simply wanting to be what they seem, Jerks.
Example, one poster when asked about the burial rights of Witnesses, answered saying how she hated Witnesses, and couldn't wait for her family to die, and that she would pee on their graves.
Such an answer doesn't help in the least.
I personally agree that, as long as the question doesn't violate the TOS and general rules of the MODs of Y!A it is thier right to put it up, but I also feel that if someone wants to post a question, they should be ready for answers.
Pretty much the only Questions I have a real problem are the ones containing lies/presuposing lies "Why don't Kingdom Halls ever have windows"? Or the ones that are rude.

I agree with You, that views ought to be treated with tolerance, but with exceptions that are broad in nature. If a question proposes wiping out a significant percent of the world population, such hate should be reported to the police!

I feel that I have a duty to my brothers and sisters to try and help them see that what they have is not the truth. I feel that, as a Christian, I have a duty of love to try and help them see the way to salvation. And, for the poster who made derogatory comments about us all being disfellowshipped for immorality, what a condescending prat. I am not disfellowshipped, I left of my own free will, I dissasociated myself when I found out that almost everything I was fed was a lie, passed out by an organisation steeped in hypocrisy.

Just like any survivor of abuse. i feel it is my duty to warn people about the other half of the Jehovah's witness faith.
I understand that my case is not like most witnesses..That I was abused and driven out and lost everything.
When God saved me out of this oppressive Cult, I have an obligation to try, to the best of my ability, to warn Christians about the possible loss of salvation in getting involved with the Witnesses.
I do it out of fear for the souls of those who may be swayed into worshiping at the feet of the false god created by the governing body, and hopefully maybe to get the witnesses to take a look at what they have been spoon fed in this theology.

I am happy that you post in this forum. It is the time that general public knows what is really going on behind the scenes in that cult.
There are a lot of atheist posting here their feelings about why they left Christianity. This is the right place to discuss all the issues like that. We can always ignore if something is too much.

I agree with you. Post away. That's how I learn.
I grew up in a church that loved to hide everything from the outside world and plenty from its own members. I say bring it out for all to see.
