Do you know any good recipes for baked beans using the crock pot?
We're having a cookout next weekend and I'd like a very simple (and cheap) recipe using canned baked beans or pork and beans. I'd like to add a few simple ingredients to make the beans sweet and forget about them until time to serve them. Any ideas will be greatly appreciated.

Pretty much any baked bean recipe can be done in the crockpot. With so much flavor in the seasonings, you can even start with the least seasoned beans... Campbells.
2 lg. cans beans
2 tblsp. dark molasses
2 tblsp. brown sugar
1/4 c. ketchup
1/4 tsp. dry mustard
parsley
chopped green peppers
chopped onion
Mix well, cover and cook on low for several hours so that it cooks down. Even in the oven, baked beans should be cooked at a very low heat for hours.
(Jay - You have NO clue how good beans can be... even starting out with canned. Don't tell people they suck (how mature) and judge something you haven't even tried. Most people, if the seasonings are done right, wouldn't even know they didn't start out with soaking the dried beans. My Grandfather was Canadian and always made his own baked beans from scratch. They were a breakfast dish with Canadian bacon to a real Northerner or New Englander... and he LOVED our beans.)

Baked Beans
Drain and rinse two 15-ounce cans pinto beans and place them in the slow cooker. Stir in one 14-ounce can diced tomatoes; 1 medium onion, finely chopped; 1/2 cup water; 2 tablespoons dark brown sugar; 1 tablespoon unsulphured molasses; 1 tablespoon dry mustard; 2 teaspoons liquid smoke; 1 teaspoon celery seed; 1 teaspoon salt; and 1/4 teaspoon garlic powder. Cover and cook on low until the flavors have melded, about 8 hours. Makes 6 servings, 3/4 cup each.

Here is a super easy recipe my mom always makes:
One large jar (48 oz) Randall's northern beans
1 cup sugar
1 onion, chopped
Mix together and put in crock pot. Thats it! These are really good, my family always has these at cookouts and holidays. (You can also add pieces of bacon if you want.)

I have two ideas off the top of my head. Get a box of Zatarains either dirty rice or black beans and rice. Make that, put it in a soft tortilla with some cheddar. This is what my husband used to serve his kids when they were little and they loved it. 2 cans tuna, drained 2 cans cream of mushroom soup 3/4 soup can of milk 1/3 pound Velveeta, diced A handful or two of frozen peas A little garlic powder and pepper --Heat it all up together and serve over toast. Oh, and biscuits and gravy. While the biscuits are baking and the gravy's heating, nuke some veggies.

I make these often for cook outs. Generally I use 4 large cans of B & M baked beans, 1/2 onion finely diced, 1/4 c. each ketchup and mustard, about a tbsp. of salt and pepper, and a few squeezes of mustard. Cook on high for about 4 hours. Then turn it on low and add about 3/4 cups crumbled bacon. I always buy apple smoked bacon, but any will do.
