Minolta copier problem?

I have a minolta di 351f. I cannot get the network to connect to it. When I try to ping the copier's network card (I have a static address set that is within the correct range for my switch and router) only rarely does the copier answer, usually it "times out" When I look at the network switch, the light over the place where the printer communicates with the switch blinks continually, day and night without regard to what we are doing with the copier. We cannot send print jobs over the network. The "network guy" from the copier company came over and said that the port on the switch was bad. However, no matter which port I plug the cable into, the light flickers continually. Also, whatever I plug into the "bad" ports works perfectly. In short, I don't think the switch is bad. I am almost completely a rookie about these things, but I am wondering if the network card in the copier is bad

Would really appreciate any help.

Update:

We have changed the cables both between the copier and the wall and between the "punchdown panel" and the switch. In each case, the cables were tested using a "fluke" network tester before installation, and also the cables taken out were tested. All were within the correct values given for cat5e cable

Update 2:

No change was seen in the problem after the cables were changed

Swap out the patch cord running from between the copier and the wall. Does trhe copier have an option to forece the NIC on the copier to be 100M Half Duplex. There may be compatibility issues between the NIC and your Switch. Set the port on the switch and the port on the copier to be identical (e.g 100M half duplex).

Alternately put a small 5 port switch next to the copier. Then attach that switch's uplink port to the wall and attach the copier to that 5 port switch. The final proof is to set the copier to DHCP in lieu of a fixed IP and see if it pulls and address from your DHCP server.

    Good Luck
